Item Open Access and Interaction Flow of Academic Staff in Public Higher Institutions in Nasarawa State(Department of Educational Management, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2021-06-17) Saleh, Agwom Dauda; Gladys, C. UwalekeIn higher education, corrupt practices are also those behavioral practices that tend to break certain moral or social codes of conduct, administrative rule or procedures which can influence the corporate culture of an institution. A descriptive survey research designed was used. The simple random sampling procedure was adopted.The population of this study is 4,594 consisting of all academic and nonacademic staff in the five (5) public higher institutions in Nasarawa State. A questionnaire: Management of Corrupt Practices and Corporate Culture in Public Higher Institutions (MCPCCPHI) was used for data collection. Two research questions were answered and two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Hypotheses were tested using chisquare. The finding reveals that corrupt practices when not tactfully managed can affect the corporate culture of an institution. However, several factors affect the corporate culture of an institution such as god-fatherism, favoritism and nepotism, academic politics and government interference. This empirical paper provide recommendation for improvement in the corporate culture of an institution by ensuring equity and build of trust in the relationship between management and staff which will go a long way in managing corrupt practices in higher institutions.Item Open Access EFFECT OF EDUCATION IN A RECESSED ECONOMY: AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH(Department of Educational Management, Nasarawa State Universty Keffi, 2019-08-08) Saleh, Agwom DaudaThis paper shows how education is an instrument par excellence for effecting national development. However, the economy of any nation is the live-wire of which a nation operates politically, culturally, technologically, socially and religiously. Therefore, school programs need to be relevant, practical and comprehensive in addressing the needs of the economy, while interest and ability of an individual in any economic benefits should determine the individual's direction in achieving education. Education can have a positive or negative effect of the economy depending on the management of education by educational managers in all three (3) levels of education. They are required activities in the school system in providing reliable fiscal information, guidance, and accountability in the management of fiscal resources allocated to schoolsItem Open Access Influence of School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) on the Management of Public Junior Secondary Schools in FCT, Abuja(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-10-10) Saleh, Agwom Dauda; Kalu, Chukwudi O.This paper emphasize on the importance of school - based management committee in decentralizing significant amount of authority and responsibility to make decisions related to the allocation of resources in achieving school objectives, mission and vision. The population of this studyconsists of 58 principals and 3,394 teachers in public junior secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory. (Abuja). The sample size is 358. The simple random sampling procedure was adopted in determining the sample size. A descriptive survey research design was used. A questionnaire: Influence of School - Based Management Committee on the Management of Public Junior Secondary Schools (ISBMCMPJSS)was used for data collection. Two research questions were answered and two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The validity score yielded 0.82. The reliability index yielded 0.76. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Hypotheses were tested using chi-square. The finding reveals that SBMC contributes significantly in short and long-term development of the school. However, several factors can limit the activities of SBMC such as government factor, community factor, principal and teacher factor. University education is expected to discover and impart new knowledge, prepare people for leadership positions in all works of life and strive to promote equality as well as social justice. Innovative educational management in public universities calls for dynamic approach in managing people, programmes and plants in the school system. However, some factors can limit the level of innovativeness in educational management in public universities such as management factor, poor policy implementation, government instability and persons occupying leadership positions in university institutions. In higher education, Corrupt practices are also those behavioural practices that tend to break certain moral or social codes of conduct, administrative rule or procedures which hinder the effective management of higher education in achieving its aims and objectives. This paper emphasize on the effective management of corrupt practices in the administration of higher education. However, some factors affect the effective management of corrupt practices in the administration of higher education in Nigeria such as irregular payment of salaries, poor funding, social factors and poor incentives. Managing these politics will determine high or low productivity of all in the university environment which include management, academic staff non-academic staff and students. However, there are many factors that that can limit effective management of politics in the administration of universities for effective productivity such as management factor, academic staff factor, non- academic staff factor and students. The level of standardization in management and infrastructure in higher institutions is determined by the university regulatory body's degree of enforcement of quality assurance, which influences students' academic performance. However, some factors can affect the degree of quality assurance on students' performance, such as poor funding, poor policies implementation, poor government interest and management factor. The use of audio-visual materials aids the effective, cognitive, affective and psychomotor development of students at all levels in Nigeria through what the ears and eyes hear and see respectively in the teaching and learning process. Audio-visuals are necessary for teaching and learning in this 21st century. They are useful in training and equipping individuals that can contribute meaningfully in the society and thus help achieve sustainable development in Nigeria. There are many factors that can limit the effective use of audio-visuals in equipping girls for sustainable development. These include inadequate infrastructure, inadequate skilled manpower, cost and limited access to the internet. This position paper, therefore, recommends the provision of adequate infrastructure, recruitment of skilled manpower, provision of adequate audio-visual materials and effective utilisation of audio-visual materials from primary to tertiary institutions in order to equip the girl child to contribute significantly to sustainable development in Nigeria.
