Abstract

This paper examines population growth and socio-economic Development in Keffi local Government Area of Nasarawa state. The population of Keffi is fast growing as a result of migration; the study therefore, investigated the causes, nature, structure and growth pattern of Keffi's population. The methodology adopted is social survey which includes the use of questionnaire as instrument for data collection and the data were analyzed statistically by simple percentage and chi-square statistical techniques. This study reveals that high population growth is detrimental to standard of living and invariably affects the rate of sociology economic development in Keffi. Also the study found that Keffi is experiencing social problems such as poverty, unemployment, armed robbery, prostitution, and civic disobedience. It is recommended that government should adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to solving problems by involving sociologists, town planners, and economists in addition to adopting poverty eradication programs in advancing the of Keffi.
