Abstract

Reproductive health came to the fore against a background of increasing rates of infant mortality in Nigeria with its attendant reproductive health implications for the country. The paper examined the relationship between reproductive health and Infant Mortality in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and effects of reproductive health on infant mortality, as well as, the effectiveness of reproductive Health services in combating Maternal and Infant Mortality in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The study adopted Health Behavioural Model as the theoretical framework. Survey research design was adopted and questionnaires were administered to 100 respondents but 96 retrieved and analyzed using tables and simple percentage. The fmdings revealed that the available Health Care Services are ineffective in providing the needed reproductive health services. The paper recommended that reproductive health programmes should be intensified by the Government and relevant stakeholders should be encourage to - promote reproductive health education so as to prevent the common causes of infant mortality. Parents especially mothers should be educated and encourage to attend ante-natal and post natal checks in government clinics and maternities as this will reduce ignorance among them.
