Abstract
This paper examines critically the contemporary roles of teacher as a change agent in the Nigerian Educational Environment. Attempt was therefore made to make conceptual clarification of education and social change, in addition to examining the criteria for being a teacher. The paper further discussed education as an agent of social change with particular emphasis on the role of teacher in the educational system. Analysis of the constraints in teacher effectiveness in the change process in the educational system was made. Useful suggestions were provided on how teachers could be more committed to their jobs.
