    EFFECT OF REALIA MATERIAL ON ACHIEVEMENT OF SOCIAL STUDIES UPPER BASIC II STUDENTS IN NYANYA-ABUJA FCT

    This study-assessed effect of realia material on achievement of social questions and two null studies upper basic II hypotheses using quasi- Students in Nyanyaexperimental research Abuja FCT. The study was design. The population of guided by two research the study consist of all 4,788 upper basic II students in Nyanya-Abuja FCT and 120 upper basic II student were used as sample size of the study selected from two schools. Social Studies Achievement Test (SOSAT) and Social Studies Interest Inventory (SOSII) were used instruments for data collection, were validated which yielded 0.78 and 0.82 validity indexes. SOSAT and SOSII were pilot tested which yielding 0.79 and 0.82 reliability indexes. After the treatment, data generated was analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions, while ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses at the 95% confidence level.

    IMPACT OF ITEM PARAMETERS AND SCORING MODELS ON ECONOMICS STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN PLATEAU STATE, NIGERIA

    The study investigated the impact of item parameters and scoring models on economics students’ achievement in senior secondary schools in Plateau State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two null (Ho) hypotheses guided the study. The study utilized factorial research design (FRD) and a sample size of 1,260 (760 males and 500 female) SSII students from 15 Secondary Schools in in Plateau State, Nigeria, using multi-stage stratified random sampling technique. The instrument is achievement tests based on 1-PL and 2-PL, Parameter Logistic Model Economics Achievement Test (PLMEAT) contained 30 items for SS2 students and, it was validated which yielded 0.83 validity index, and 0.83 reliability index. Data generated was analyses using descriptive statistic/regression coefficients, mean and standard deviation for answering research questions while One-Way ANOVA was used for testing hypotheses at the 95% confidence level of significant, and the findings revealed that there is a significant impact of psychometric properties on students Economics achievement tests developed based on 1-PL and 2-PL models, and there is a there is no significant difference between male and female students Economics achievement mean scores developed based on 1-PL, 2-PL, dichotomous and polytomous scoring models. The study recommended that educational authorities in Plateau State adopt IRT for scoring student assessments. IRT provides a sophisticated framework that takes into account the difficulty, discrimination, and guessing parameters of test items, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of student performance and IRT-based scoring models, educators can ensure that assessments are more reflective of students' true abilities, reducing biases and enhancing the overall validity of the tests.

    TEACHERS UTILIZATION OF WRITTEN CURRICULUM IMPACT OF TABLE OF SPECIFICATION ON ECONOMICS IMPLEMENTATION IN SECONDARY EDUCATION OF NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA

    RACT secondary level is important for fostering enhancing curriculum delivery at the knowledge, measuring, and grading valid individual performance. In light of these considerations, the study explored the impact of Table of Specification (TOS) on teachers’ economics utilization of written curriculum implementation in secondary education in Nasarawa state, Nigeria. The study was directed by two research questions with associated null hypotheses, and survey research was used. A sample size of 340 economics teachers were used, checklist and questionnaire were utilized as data collecting devices, and they were validated, and pilot tested, yielding 0.81 validity and 0.82 reliability indexes. The data acquired was analyzed using the means to answer research questions, and the One-Way ANOVA was employed to test null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that, Economics teachers do not use TOS very often to assess student’s cognitive domain, there is no significant impact in male, and female economics teachers use of TOS toward implementation of written curriculum. The study recommended that Economics teachers should implements written curriculum (lesion plan, or syllabus, test, exam) in agreement with TOS, and Nasarawa State Ministry of Education should organize workshop to train teachers on how to use TOS to enhancing writing curriculum delivery in secondary education.

    PRINCIPALS' POLITICS OF SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND ITS IMPACT ON STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE FOR NATIONAL COHESION OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NASARAWA STATE

    his study examined the principals’ politics of school leadership and its impact on students’ academic performance for national cohesion of secondary school in Nasarawa State. Two (2) research questions and two (2) hypotheses were formulated and tested for the study Descriptive survey design was adopted for study The population of the study was 600 students and 258 teachers and principals representing 20% of the total Population were sampled from three southerndistricts using stratified random sampling. The structured questionnaire developed by the researcher was used to collect data for the study. The instrument used for the data collection of the study was a modified four point- Likert type questionnaire of Strongly Agreed (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D) and Strongly Disagree (SD). Frequencypercentageand mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the two research questions, while chi-square was used to test the two hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that principals' politics of school leadership on classroom management has significance on students' performance in secondary schools in Nasarawa state and principals' politics of school leadership on school environment has impact on students' performance. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that Principals' politics of school leadership and classroom management should be a collaborative team work with teachers and principals for daily practices to improve teachers and students performance in schools. Also that capacity building should be organized by government to enrich the principals with the adequate leadership on school environment require for teachers effectiveness in secondary school for effective and productive student's performance.

    Managing Technical Education for Result Job Creation and Economic Self Reliance in Nigeria

    The decade of the 20s ushered in many changes and challenges in education in many developing countries. This has increased the pressure for an improved management approaches. This paper therefore reviews some relevant literature relating to managing technical education for self-reliance and economic self- reliance in Nigeria. Nigeria's education programmes seem saddled with many constraints. Some of such constraints were identified. Worst still, was the MAMSER, socio-economic issues were just a toothless body which acted as a booster to the geocentricism of its officials through public address system rather than educating the masses for self-reliance. Or issues bothering on socio­ economic bothering on socio-economic and political education for self-reliance have been thought out.

    Application of Tiger-Nations Education Type for Promoting Entrepreneurial Society in Nigeria through Vocational and Technical Education

    This paper discussed application of Tiger Nations Education type for promoting entrepreneurial society in Nigeria through vocational and technical education. The paper in its theoretical framework, discussed benefits of the tiger Nations Educational system to Nigeria. It also highlighted the mad blocks that militate against the adoption of the tigers Educational system in Nigeria. The paper concluded that Nigeria can become and economic gain of the world only if careful attention is paid to education and technological development as well as a promotion of creativity and innovation with its material and human resources channeled towards effective and productive use. Based on this conclusion, the paper suggested that to improve the welfare of workers, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other affiliated unions can set the pace in establishing vocational and technical education centres in the local government areas where recruitable workers would acquire employability skills.

    he study examined influence of Resources Allocation and utilization teachers' Effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Nasarawa West senatorial District Nigeria. Three (3) research questions with corresponding objectives and two (2) null hypotheses were generated to guide the study. The study was guided by descriptive survey research. The population comprises 2, 211 principals and teachers drawn from 191 Public Secondary Schools in Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Nigeria. The sample for the study was 221 principals and teachers using simple random sampling technique. Self designed structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics of Mean and Standard deviation was used to answer the research question. The null hypotheses were tested using chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. One of the findings of the study revealed that there is a significant influence of resource allocation on teachers' effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Nigeria. One of the recommendations amongst others was that efforts should be made by Nasarawa State Government in conjunction with the State Ministry of Education to ensure that learning resources are supplied or made available to secondary schools in order to facilitate effective teaching and learning. The support and assistance Non­ governmental organizations should also sought in this regard.

    ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF HOMEGROWN SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME IN UBE SCHOOLS IN SOUTH-WEST NIGERIA

    The study assessed the implementation of Home Grown-School Feeding Programme in UBE Schools in South-West Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions with corresponding two objectives and hypotheses. The research design used for this study was the cross- sectional survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 38, 423 (154 Local Government Educational secretaries 2814 principals and 35455 teachers). The sample size of this study consisted of379 using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) Table and simple random technique respectively. The researcher developed a questionnaire for data collection from the respondents. The questionnaire is tagged "Implementation of Home Grown School Feeding Programme in UBE Schools Questionnaire' (1HGSFPUBESQ). The instrument was duly validated and it yielded 0.80 as logical validity index. The coefficient of internal consistency of 0.75 was obtained after pilot testing the instrument. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while Pearson product moment correlation was employed to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that there was a significant relationship between provision of funds and implementation of home-grown school feeding programme in South- Western Nigeria UBE schools and there was a significant relationship between recruitment of food vendors and implementation ofh ome grown school feeding programme in South-Western Nigeria UBE schools. One of the recommendations of the study was that the various state governments in South-Western Nigeria should solicit for special intervention funds from donor agencies like United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), European Union (EU), African Union (AU) among others to facilitate the successful implementation of the home-grown- school feeding programme in the UBE schools.

    INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL BACKGROUND ON EDUCATION OF THE GIRL-CHILD IN NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA: IMPLICATION FOR POST COVID SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

    This study examined the influence ofparental background on education of the girl-child in Nasarawa State. The target population consist of755,912 parents from both rural and urban settlement and the sample size is 384. Four research questions were answered using descriptive and inferential statistics (mean and standard deviation) and four corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test. The instrument used to collect data from respondents is titled Influence of Parental Background on Education of the Girl-child Questionnaire (IPBEGO). All analysis was done using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. Findings from the study revealed that Parental income influences the education of the girl-child in Nasarawa State. The study also revealed that rural and urban parents perceive differently education of the girl-child in Nasarawa State. The study concludes that parents from urban who have attained better education have more understanding towards the necessity of girl-child education and have more positive concern towards the education ofg irls than those parents from rural who are less educated.

    AN INVESTIGATION INTO FACTORS AFFECTING GIRL-CHILD EDUCATION IN FUNTUA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KATSINA STATE

    The purpose oft his study was to investigate into the factors affecting girl-child education in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State. The sample comprised 150 respondents: 78 males and 72 females both literate and illiterate adults of 30 years and above. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested. Data were analyzed using the x2 (chi-square) test statistics of 0.5 level of significance. Results indicated that parents' level of education; socio-economic status and male attitudes accounted for low enrolment of girl-child in the primary and post primary institutions in the area of the study. Suggestions were made as to how the attitude ofparents-male in particular couldfiirther influence positively girl-child education.

    IMPROVING EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE, DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: CHALLENGES AND WAY FORWARD

    The thrust of this paper is on improving Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) in Nigeria. The paper argues that the foundation of learning is laid during the earliest years of a child, yet many children still miss out this crucial early learning experiences and support for their socio-emotional and physical development. Children safety, health, and happiness, well-qualified teachers, trip(s), exposure to a variety of culture(s) and technology were identified as ways of improving early childhood education in Nigeria. The paper further notes that Early Childhood Care, Development and Education is crucial in the sense that it helps in the building of strong foundation for the child’s physical, mental, emotional and social development just as it improves the well-being of the children through healthy habits like brushing and regular washing of hands. It also brings about the development of literary and numerical skills of the children as well as socialization which helps children overcome shyness and gain self-confidence. The dearth of professionally qualified teachers and caregivers, frequent use of foreign instructional materials for teaching and learning, lack of access to ECCDE programme by children in the rural areas as well as the use of foreign language as a medium of instruction were among the top challenges of the ECCDE in Nigeria revealed from the study. To overcome such challenges, the paper suggests adequate provision of professionally qualified teachers and caregivers, the use of indigenous instructional materials for teaching and learning, the establishment of model ECCDE schools in rural areas as well as the use of indigenous language as a medium of instruction

    Social Studies education is a value laden subject, which relates citizen obligation and duties to the state. It is a process of integrating the citizen with national policies, economic, social and technological values. Social Studies is defined as citizenship education that prepares individuals to live cooperatively with one another, appreciate one’s culture and have a thorough knowledge of existing norms, structure and privileges. Counselling on the other hand helps the individual to realize the need for interdependence with various groups of the society and the world at large. The paper begins by explaining vividly the concept of terrorism and militarism and establishes the difference between terrorism and militarism. It reveals that militarism is the offspring of terrorism, and that different countries of the world adopted militarism to protect their nation and restore law and order. The paper reveals that militarism and terrorism are problems that affect harmonious living of Nigerian people. In addition the paper highlights causes of conflicts or crises in the past and recent Nigeria. It further looks at Social Studies and counselling as an imperative paradigm as a means of curbing terrorism and militarism in Nigeria. It suggests that Social Studies and Counselling approaches and strategies be used for harmonious living to enhance lasting peaceful co-existence in Nigeria

    The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has no doubt adversely affected the global economy. It has forced governments across the world to place restrictions on movement while exempting providers of services to strictly observe social distancing while providing services as a way to contain the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, the educational sector in Nigeria is grossly affected with roughly 10.3 million secondary school students been out of school as a result of the school closures with no or limited access to learning activities. To cushion the effects of the pandemic, the world is embracing technological innovations in many sectors; most especially, education. UNESCO has recommended the use of distance learning programmes, open educational applications and platforms by schools and teachers to reach learners remotely. While Nigerian government we reluctant about bringing out policy statement towards providing access to learning activities, most private secondary schools across the country are making use of the available technological resources to initiate e-learning programmes for learners at home. Laudable as these initiatives appears, it also faces militating challenges.     DEMOCRACY AND CHALLENGES OF 2011 ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA

    The 2011 elections are all over. It was eveiybody else's desire that the elections should be peaceful devoid of rigging and manipulations of results so that we can have right type of leaders who will move the country forward and to ensure a sustainable democracy in Nigeria. Under normal circumstances', elections are supposed to be free, fair and transparent going by the rules and regulations guiding it, but in the Nigerian context, the reverse was the case. Lack off reedom andfairp rocedures of2011 elections in the country led to religious and ethnic politics, godfatherism, open use of money, thuggery and rigging, misuse of law enforcement agencies, political violence which led to the death of many people and destruction of public and private properties across the country. These were the major challenges of 2011 elections in Nigerians. In terms data collection, documents, empirical researches conducted, committee and eye-witness reports were the sources of the information in the paper. To have credible elections in a country, callsf or active collective responsibility of all the stakeholders of elections in Nigeria, so that together we can move the country forward toward selfreliance development

    Effect of Kohlberg's moral dilemma on secondary school adolescents' reasoning and their ideas on moral issues

    Adolescents' level of reasoning as it affects their ideas on moral issues was investigated. One hundred and twenty (120) respondents constituted the sample with male respondents comprising 46 and female respondents 74. Moral dilemma as in Kohlberg (1983) was employed. The students expressed their ideas on moral issues due to level of reasoning. It was found that participant's level of reasoning as it affects their ideas on moral issues was high. The result also shows that moral reasoning increases with age, as well as level of schooling. But there was no significant difference between the female and male respondents. The implication of the study was also discussed.

    Socio-Economic Impacts of Insurgency on Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) in Borno State, Nigeria: Implications for Counselling

    The study was a correlation survey that identified the socio-economic impacts of insurgency and determined the relationships between unemployment, politics, poverty and insurgency in Borno State, Nigeria. Target population of the study comprised of all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their government designated camps in Borno State. However, 340 IDPs were used as samples for the study. Volunteer sampling technique was adopted in picking the subjects. Researchers’ authored Structured Interview Schedule (S.I.S) was the instrument used in collecting data for the study. The instrument had a validity index of .74 and reliability coefficient of .86 which was adjudged adequate for the study. One research question and three null-hypotheses guided the study. Statistical techniques of frequency counts, percentages and ranking were adopted in answering the research question while Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient (f) was employed in testing the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. Findings of the study revealed depopulation, loss of properties, psychological trauma, agricultural trouncing and social disintegration as some of the socio-economic impacts of the insurgency in Borno State. None of the null-hypotheses was upheld as there were significant relationships between unemployment, politics, poverty and insurgency in the study area. Based on findings of the study, prompt and positive interventions by the government at all levels, inter and intra national organizations, religious and community leaders, national directorate of employment and the private sectors of the economy towards engaging the victims in vocational and other entrepreneurial skills were some of the counselling implications proffered.

    Assessment of the Level of Students' Self-Esteem and Learning Difficulties in Redeemer College, Akwanga Nasarawa State

    The study was designed to investigate the level of students' low self-esteem and their learning difficulties. The students' low self-esteem and learning difficulties questionnaire (STSEALDQ) was used to obtain data of self-esteem and learning difficulties of the students. The questionnaire consisted of ten (10) items using Modified Likert Scale to collect data from 164 students in Redeemer College Akwanga, Nasarawa state. The percentage scores of the respondents were used to determine the level of their self-esteem and learning difficulties. The findings revealed greater percentage of low self-esteem and high percentage of learning difficulties among students. The findings were supported by theoretical models and studies in the literature. The researcher recommends that teachers should show positive attitude to students so that their self-esteem can be enhanced and learning difficulties minimised. This will reduce the percentage of students with learning difficulties, hence, fostering educational development in the area of study and Nigeria at large.
