Abstract
This study evaluate the implementation of Nigerian local content in the oil industry. The policy was introduced in order to avail Nigerians and indigenous companies to participate in the activities of oil and gas exploration and exploitation, which was the exclusive preserve of foreigners. About $20 billion dollars go to those foreign companies annually abroad in terms of services and goods exploitation, drilling, production, and service provision. The study is trying to fund out the benefits accruing to Nigerian with the implimentiaotn of the policy in term of human capital development, employments and traings. The study found that Nigerian companies are participationg as contractors, providing services and many Nigerians have acquired necessary skills ot allow to fully engage in the oil industry. It is recommended that the level of Nigerian participation should be increased, encourage more skills acquisition and appropriate panalties should be applied as sanctions for oil companies that refuse or fial to implement the policy.
