Item Open Access EFFECT OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING STRATAGY ON ACHIEVEMENT AND RETENTION IN MATHEMATICAL ECONOMICS AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NASARAWA STATE(Department of Education Economics, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-07-18) Ishaka, Y.; Salami, T.; Akhideno, P.This study investigated the effect of cooperative learning strategy on achievement and retention in mathejnatical economics among senior secondary students in Nasarawa State. The study is a quasi-experimental design, of pretest, posttest and post posttest control group research design. The subjects consisted of senior secondary school II students of economics from Doma and Lafia LGAs of the State. The sample consisted of 80 subjects of two intact classes randomly sampled and assigned to experimental and control groups, drawn from two schools. One group was exposed to cooperative learning, and the other to lec ure method. Mathematical Economics Achievement Test (MEAT), consisting of 50 items multiple choice achievement test, was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics of means curd standard deviations was used to answer the research questions while analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was applied to test the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that the students performed better when taught with cooperative learning strategy in secondary schools. Findings and implications were discussed and recommendations made.Item Open Access EFFECTS OF MULTIMEDIA INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD ON SECONDARY SCHOOLS STUDENTS' ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN ECONOMICS IN NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of economics education, nasarawa state university keffi., 2017-07-12) Salihu, Abdullahi Galle; Danladi, A. A.The study investigated the effects of multimedia instructional method on secondary schools Students Academic Achievement in Economics in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The research determined whether multimedia instructional method has significant effects on the learning achievement of senior secondary school students in economics. Three research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The study utilized the non-randomized control group pretest post-test experimental design. The sample consisted of 120 students from four schools selected through simple random sampling procedures. Students of the experimental group were instructed in four units of Economics syllabus using table projector while conventional teaching method was used for control group. Economics Achievement Test (EA T) was developed and duly validated by experts. Data collected were analyses using mean to answered research questions and Two-tailed t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05, level of significance. Major findings of the study indicated, that there is a statistical significant difference in the mean achievement scores of students taught using multimedia instructional methods and those taught using conventional method and males in the experimental group significantly performed better than their female counterparts. The researcher recommended that, government should formulate a policy that will provide multimedia instructional material for teaching and learning and organized workshop for training of teachers using multi-medias kills.
