Item Open Access Cultural Beliefs and the Challenges of Women Participation in Nigerian Politics(Department of Political Science, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2017-01-07) Abdullahi, Mohammed Abdul; Muhammad, Bello Baban'umma; Ibrahim, AminuThis paper interrogates the implication of the cultural beliefs that men are naturally superior to women which enhances the chances of male domination over female. To achieve this, secondary sources of data were used and cultural theory o; politics was use as a theoretical underpinning to investigate,,ine root causes of the issue. The paper found that patriarchy and ideological belief that women are inferior has no justification and goes contrary to reality. In general, it is obvious from the study that, adequate women political participation cannot be realized only through targeted projects, affirmative action and enactment of discrimination laws that seek to place women in leadership positions. Women political empowerment must not be reduced to measuring the number of women in the legislature or the ministerial appointment. But the society must uncover the hidden biases and practices that limit women's ability to enjoy equal rights and opportunities as well as find the most culturally appropriate means to support women's capacities to drive social change in the society. The paper recommends that real change may not be possible without a change in the cultural and structural formation of a society. This change, to a larger extent, could be achieved through the practice of effective communication which is a tool for conscientization and radical social action.Item Open Access Cultural Beliefs and the Challenges of Women Political Participation in Nigeria(Department of Political Science, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-01-09) Abdullahi, Mohammed Abdul; Muhammad, Bello Baban'umma; Ibrahim, Aminu'ibis paper interrogates the implication of the cultural beliefs that men arc naturally superior to women which enhances the chances of male domination over female: To achieve this, secondary sources of data were used and cultural theory of politics was use as a theoretical underpinning to investigate the root causes of the issue. The damaging effect of this orthodox situation is hardly acknowledged by the government; let alone taking deliberate steps to put an end to it. Police officers need to legitimately carry firearms to incapacitate dangerous armed criminals, and are constitutionally empowered to use force during their daily tasks. However, the almost daily occurrence of "extra judicial killings," “accidental discharge, "etc. causing fatal harms on innocent citizens, have now become a source of serious security and safety concerns in the country. The utter disregards of rules of engagements with impunity by the police not only question the ability of the government to protect its citizens but also undermine its credibility. Even though government has frequently appointed committees to advise it on the way forward, regrettably, the reports of such committees are never implemented. This study, examines “extra judicial killings, and rule of engagement in the Nigerian police force" as well as the state and courses of extra judicial killings in Nigeria. The study used secondary source data and The Professional and Bureaucratic Model as it theoretical framework. The paper therefore, recommend that government should strive to promote the rule of law and accountability and fight against impunity, the police should be strengthened through adequate equipment, patrol vehicles with communication equipment's, training and retraining, better welfare packages, and motivation to ensure best performance. Above all, the society in general should enhance security by creating a disciplined and law-abiding citizenry imbued with the right values and attitude towards safeguarding life and property in the country.Item Open Access Impact of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) on Health Service Delivery in Nigeria(Department of Political, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2022-12-12) Abdullahi, Mohammed Abdul; Ibrahim, Aminu; Maiwada, Muktar; Waibe, Ahmadu EjimThe desire to provide efficient and effective Health care delivery system has always prompted the Nigerian Government to review its health policies.
