Bibliotherapy is the technique of healing through reading, and it refers to the therapeutic process in which the client uses books and educational materials to enhance their mental health. This paper discussed the importance of bibliotherapy application in library and information services and reveals the effectiveness of Bibliotherapy to library customers with mental disorders. Research indicates that Bibliotherapy effectively treats various pathological symptoms that prevail in major depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, grief and trauma. The study had two objectives, two research questions and two mdl hypotheses. Descriptive survey design was employed for the study. Fourty federal universities academic libraries with 3551 library staff constitute the population for the study. Eighteen universities with 480 library staff were randomly selected and used for has sample for the study. Thirty (30) items structured questionnaire which was validated by experts was used for data collection.Item Open Access Effect of Ethnic Conflict on the Information Sharing and Socio-Economic Development in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria(Department Of Library And Information Science, Faculty Of Education, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-08-03) Adamu, Yahaya; Abubakar, Mohammed Zaharadeen; Wada, Hafsat MohammedThe study sought to investigate the effect of ethnic conflict on the information sharing and sociocultural development in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the study had one research question, and one hypothesis respondents were eighty-five, comprising thirty-five people from Bassa ethnic community and fifty people from Egbura ethnic community. Five rating scale structured questionnaire was used for data collection using face to face method. Eightyfive copies of the questionnaire were properly filledand returned for use. Data collected were coded using Statistical Packages of Social Sciences (SPSS). The bio-data of the respondents were analyzed using frequency and percentages. Research questions were answered with mean and standard deviation, and the null hypothesis was tested using chi-square because it is the suitable tool used in testing effect in the research study. In answering research questions, items with a mean score of 3.0 and above were considered agree, and less than 2.5 disagree. In testing null hypotheses, if the probability value is equal to or greater than 0.05, the null hypothesis was retained. On the other hand, if the probability value is less than 0.05, the null hypothesis was rejected. The findings of the study revealed that ethnic conflict negatively affects the sociocultural stability and peaceful relation between Bassa and Egbura communities. This resulted in cases of possession of illegal arms and weapons among the members of the conflicting tribes resulting in an increased rate of crime, tension, and state of insecurity; thwarted commercial activities in the area; increased lawlessness and social vices; high level of distrust among members of conflicting communities; and increase in internally displaced persons. The government and other stakeholders in Bassa and Egbura ethnic communities should design policies that will embrace, capture and respect everybody's opinion and ensure equality in the distribution of the available social amenities and other infrastructures.Item Open Access EXPLORATIVE STUDY ON THE ADOPTION AND UTILIZATION OF MOBILE DEVICES FOR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES AMONGST DISTANCE EDUCATION STUDENTS IN NIGERIA(Department of library and information science , Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2017-08-06) Kabir, Fatima S.; Adamu, YahayaThe study investigated the adoption and utilization of mobile devices for academic activities amongst distance education students in Nigeria. The study had three objectives and three null hypotheses. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 55,746 final year students of six distance learning institutions in 2013/2014 academic session in Nigeria. The researchers adopted stratified sampling and simple random sampling to select 940 students used for this study. A structured questionnaire titled ‘Students Use of Mobile Phones in Distance Education in Nigeria (SUMPDEN) ’ and Individual Innovativeness Scale (IIS) of Hurt, Joseph, & Cook 1977 were used for data collection. The instrument was validated by four experts in educational research. The reliability of the instruments was determined by conducting a pilot test using 94 students of National Teachers Institute, Kaduna Study Centre, using Test-Retest method. Data obtained from the pilot study were coded and analyzed. Cronbach Reliability coefficient obtained was 0.77. The instruments were administered personally by the researchers with the assistance of five trained research assistants. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment of Correlation. The results showed among others that, students of Open and Distance Education have no requisite skills on usage of mobile devices for academic activities in Nigeria. Based on the outcome it was concluded that students in Open and Distance Education in Nigeria do not maximize the usefulness of a mobile learning system that provides access to learning materials that would help improve learning outcome amongst students. The researchers recommended among others that government and stakeholders in distance education should create awareness programmes that will enable students to acknowledge the importance of mobile phone technology in distance education institutions in Nigeria.Item Open Access IMPACT APPRAISAL OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION AS A GENERAL COURSE ON ENTREPRENEUR SKILLS ACQUISITION OF UNIVERSITIES UNDERGRADUATES IN KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Library and Information Science, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2012-10-05) Ibrahim, Adamu; Adamu, Yahaya; Usman, Bashir AhmadThis research work focuses on the appraisal of the impact of entrepreneurship education as a general course to universities undergraduate students on their entrepreneur skills acquisition. The study has seven objectives and seven null hypotheses were formulated and tested. Descriptive survey design method was adopted in the study. Self constructed structured questionnaire titled "Entrepreneurship education and entrepreneur skills" (EEE5) was used for data collected from 300 undergraduate students from three selected universities in Nigeria. 255 copies of questionnaire were properly filled and subjected to statistical analysis. Regression analysis was employed to test Null hypotheses one, two, three, four, five and seven Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to test null hypotheses six. All the hypotheses were tested at significance level of 0.05. The results of the study reveals, among other that teaching of entrepreneurship education as a general course in universities has no significant impact on undergraduate students' skills acquisition for Business formation in Nigeria. One of the advices provided is that every programme should have Entrepreneurship education integrated into its curriculum rather than teaching it as a general course, and that the course should not be a separate, isolated course but should be integrated into all courses.Item Open Access INFLUENCE OF TRADITIONAL INFORMATION COMMUNICATION IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION AMONG BASSA AND EGBURA ETHNIC GROUPS IN TOTO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Library and Information Sciences, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2020-08-17) Adamu, Yahaya; Maifata, Mu'azu Nurudeen; Ibrahim, Idi AhmadThis study investigated the influence of traditional information communication in conflict resolution among Bassa and Egbura in Toto IGA of Nasarawa State Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design and questionnaires were used as an instrument for data collection. The population of the study was made up of the Bassa and Egbura communities in Toto LGA. However, 398 members of the communities were selected as sample for the study; two objective and one hypothesis were formulated and tested. Descriptive statistics were used to analyses the data collected. The study established, among other things that power struggle, political exclusion, and non-compliance with rules and policies of the land. Others are lack of information, dominion and oppression, exploitation and unjust violation of human right. The study also discovered that non-tolerance, victimisation, discrimination, among others are the of ethnic conflicts between the Bassa and Egbura communities. The study recommends power shaiing, equal disti ibution ofiesources, provision of social amenities and infrastructures, information sharing, dialogue, hearing and respecting the views of others, open-mindedness, inter-ethnic interactions, use of town crier, social media, radio, and newspaper should be employed to avoid conflict between the affected communities. causesItem Open Access Readiness of Academic Librarians to Form Sustainable Partnership Activities among the Federal Universities Libraries in Nigeria(Department of library and information science , Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2021-06-04) Ahmad, Ibrahim Idi; Adamu, Yahaya; Asma'u, RabeThe study investigated the readiness of academic librarians for sustainable partnership activities among the federal university libraries in Nigeria.. A cross-sectional survey design was used, and the study was carried out in the forty (40) federal universities in Nigeria. The federal universities were divided into strata according to six (6) geopolitical zones; a stratified sampling technique was adopted, 50% of the population was used from each stratum as a sample. This 50% gave a total population of 18 federal universities, and the (18) federal universities have a total of 480 academic librarians, which serve as a primary population of the study.Item Open Access Relevance of Policy/Guideline for Effective Resource Sharing Activities among Federal University Libraries in Nigeria(Department of library and information science , Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2019-03-03) Ahmad, Ibrahim Idi; Adamu, YahayaThe study investigated the relevance of policy/guideline for resource sharing activities among federal university libraries in Nigeria Cross sectional survey design was used in the study. The secondary population of the study was thirty six (36) federal university libraries in Nigeria out of which eighteen (18) university librarians. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire and interview that was administered to academic librarians and university librarians respectively. The data collected were analyzed using Thematic analysis and deductive coding technique. The findings revealed that there is no policy/guideline that guides resource sharing activities among the federal university libraries, the study also found that different types of resource sharing activities were practiced by libraries under study However study recommended that there is a need for federal university libraries under study to have policy/guideline on resource sharing, library co-operation, interlibrary loan or partnership activities,. Finally, the study proposed « policy/guidelineframework for resource sharing activities among the libraries under study.
