Item Open Access The Effect of Library Automation Services on the Utilisation of Information Resources in Bingham University Library(2020-03-19) Okeaghalam, Ikechukwu; Ajibili, Danjuma Onu; Achi, MondayThis work titled The Effect of Library Automation services on the Utilisation of Information Resources in Bingham University Library appraised the utilisation of automation services to access and utilise library information resources in Bingham University, Karu in Nasarawa State. A survey research method was adopted for the study, and the questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The population of the study consisted of 751 students who registered with the library in the current academic year and out of which 254 users were randomly selected to respond to the questionnaire out of which 234 were retrieved and found usable representing 92.13% of the total respondents and data were analysed using frequency tables and percentages. The significant findings of the study were that majority of the respondents were not aware of many of the library automation services, which led to underutilisation of these services and low satisfaction. Ignorance of the existence of library automation services, inadequate searching skills of the users, inefficient computer systems, and inaccessibility of the library website. Others are nonfunctional computer systems, epileptic Wi-Fi signal, and irregular power supply contributed to underutilisation and low satisfaction of the automation services of the library. Based on the findings, the study recommended that the library should embark on massive awareness programs; library staff should be trained on how to market and encourage the students to use these automation services, and the library should regularly interview the users to ascertain their level of satisfaction. And the management of the university should continue to improve in the provision of power supply, Internet infrastructuItem Open Access EMERGING SECURITY TECHNOLOGY AND EFFECTIVE SERVICE PROVISION IN UNIVERSITY OF JOS LIBRARY, NIGERIA(Library and Information Science Department, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2018-10-01) Shehu, Allahde; Maifata, Mu'azu Nurudeen; Achi, MondayThe study examined the emerging security technology and effective service, provision in university of Jos library, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design. The population of the study was made up of both professional Librarians and paraprofessional staff of the library. Simple random sampling was used to select the respondents. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation were generated on all the research questions. One hundred (100) copies of questionnaire were administered to professional librarians and paraprofessional staff out of which a total number of 98 copies were duly completed and returned, representing (98%). The findings showed that that mutilation was the highest security challenge been confronted by the University of Jos Library; thesis/project/dissertation, books and journals are susceptible to mutilation. It is recommended that libraries should install the various secuiity devices like CCTV cameras, RFID and Barcode Scanners to secure their resources from theft or mutilation. It is expected to provide a serene environment for learning and research. Its architectural expression and sitting continue to reflect the unique legacy and tradition of an institution of which it is a part. This study assessed library users on Factors affecting the Use of a Medical Library: A case study of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bingham University, Jos Campus. Simple random sampling was used in the study; fifty (50) library users were selected for the study. A questionnaire was used as the main instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research findings revealed that the location of the College Library is one of the causes of low library patronage as the library is a sandwich between lecture halls, hostel accommodations, and staff quarters with its consequent activities. Distraction and lack of conveniences in the library are all caused by the library location, amongst many factors. The study concludes that critical actions be taken in addressing identified problems to improve more considerable patronage, improve research output, and better library services. The study recommended that the College Library should be relocated to a convenient alternative building which should be easily accessible or a new library complex be built to accommodate staff offices and conveniences for staff and users. The study further recommended better funding and proper repairs of building structures to safeguard lives and property.
