Item Open Access A Critical Analysis Of Contemporary Roles Of Teacher As A Change Agent In The Nigerian Educational Environment(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2009-11-16) Oke, Tunde Dayo; Ibikunle, GO.; Adekunle, A.AThis paper examines critically the contemporary roles of teacher as a change agent in the Nigerian Educational Environment. Attempt was therefore made to make conceptual clarification of education and social change, in addition to examining the criteria for being a teacher. The paper further discussed education as an agent of social change with particular emphasis on the role of teacher in the educational system. Analysis of the constraints in teacher effectiveness in the change process in the educational system was made. Useful suggestions were provided on how teachers could be more committed to their jobs.Item Open Access QUALITY ISSUES IN PART-TIME AND SANDWICH PROGRAMMES OF NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2009-04-12) SOTANNDE, R.A; Oke, Tunde Dayo; Adekunle, A.AThis paper examined the issues ofquality in the part-time and sandwich programmes mounted by institutions of higher learning in Nigeria, Attempt was made to examine the meaning, goals and historical development of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The paper further discusses the rationale or justification for part-time and sandwish programmes, low admissions requirement, poor organization of programme, low quality of lecturers, and ineffective administrative machinery among others, were identified as major factors affecting quality of parttime/ sandwich programmes. Consequently, institutionalization of Quality assurance units in tertiary institutions, adequate funding of Education, uniform l I Quality Issues in Part-Time, & Sr^iwich Programmes of Nigerian uniform admissions requirement, time duration and staffing conditions with full time programmes are suggested as some of the measures of improving quality of part-time and sandwich programmes in Nigeria's tertiaiy institutions.Item Open Access RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEAD TEACHERS MANAGERIAL BEHAVIOR AND WORK ATTITUDES OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN ABEOKUTA METROPOLIS OF OGUN STATE(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2020-06-10) Adekunle, A.A; Oke, Tunde Dayo; AJAGBE, B.OThis study examines the relationship between Head teachers’ managerial behaviour and the work attitudes of primary school teachers in Abeokuta metropolis of Ogun state. 100 public primary school teachers were randomly selected from ten public primary schools in Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North Local Government Area making up Abeokuta metropolis formed the sample for the study. The instruments used for data collection were’the Head Teachers' Managerial Behaviour Questionnaire (HTMBK) and Teachers' Attitude to Work Scale (TATWS). The findings revealed significant relationship between head teachers managerial behaviour, and teachers' attitudes to work. A significant difference was also observed in the work attitudes of teachers working with male head teachers and those working with female head teachers. It was suggested among others that head teachers should adopt Committee System and also delegate responsibilities to teachers on the basis of trust and competence in order to make them have sense of belonging, and have positive attitude to work.Item Open Access Teachers Practice Of 'In-Loco-Parentis' And School Discipline In Lagos State Public Secondary Schools(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2010-03-22) Oke, Tunde Dayo; Adekunle, A.AItem Open Access TEACHERS’ REGISTRATION COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (TRCN) AND PROFESSIONALISATION OF TEACHING(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2015-11-28) Adekunle, A.A; Oke, Tunde DayoThe paper makes a critical assessment of the roles of the Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) towards meeting the challenges of professionalization of teaching in Nigeria. Attempt was made to examine the mandates of the TRCN. In addition, a critique of the agency's efforts towards making teaching a profession was made. As a way of repositioning the TRCN, so as to be more functional in its mandates as well as meeting the challenges of professionalization of teaching in Nigeria, it was suggested among others, that the TRCN should be more proactive and efficient in publishing the list of registered and licensed teachers.Item Open Access Turnover of Teachers and Students’ Learning Achievements in Private Secondary Schools in Abeokuta Metropolis of Ogun State, Nigeria(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2015-06-15) Adekunle, A.A; Oke, Tunde DayoThis study examined the turnover of teachers in relation to students ’ academic achievements in private secondary schools in Abeokuta Metropolis of Ogun state, Nigeria. Three hypotheses guided the study. A descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The sample comprises 300 participants, made up of 100 teachers and 200 students selected from ten government-approved private secondary.... schools using simple and stratified random sampling techniques. A self-constructed questionnaire and achievement tests drawn in the general subjects of English language, mathematics and computer studies (ICT) were used for data collection. Data obtained were analysed using Chi-square, T-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation techniques. The results of the analyses indicated that the turnover of teachers had significant influence on students * learning achievements. It was also found that the intention to leave teaching was higher among non-professional teachers than among professionally trained teachers. Conditions of service were also found to contribute to teachers ’ turnover. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that only those who are professionally qualified should be recruited as teachers, while there should also be some improvement in the conditions of service for teachers at every level and sector.
