Abstract

This paper examined the issues ofquality in the part-time and sandwich programmes mounted by institutions of higher learning in Nigeria, Attempt was made to examine the meaning, goals and historical development of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The paper further discusses the rationale or justification for part-time and sandwish programmes, low admissions requirement, poor organization of programme, low quality of lecturers, and ineffective administrative machinery among others, were identified as major factors affecting quality of parttime/ sandwich programmes. Consequently, institutionalization of Quality assurance units in tertiary institutions, adequate funding of Education, uniform l I Quality Issues in Part-Time, & Sr^iwich Programmes of Nigerian uniform admissions requirement, time duration and staffing conditions with full time programmes are suggested as some of the measures of improving quality of part-time and sandwich programmes in Nigeria's tertiaiy institutions.
