rr , ABSTRACT . j yp is suaveolens (Labicitcie) is native to tropical America, now widespread as weeds na me ropical and subtropical. The great majority are annuals inhabiting temperate * -ones ant trees which are extremely rare. Hyptis suaveolens is used in northern Nigeria jot tne treatment of fever as well as pains related to the ailment. The leaves of the plant . were p itched from the stem and air dry before turn to powder and extracted using ' el ano^ ic f action (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg I.P) was tested on chemical acetic acid- in iiice writhing, formalin and thermal (tail-flick) analgesic tests with, .the aim of . e ucidaling both centrally and peripherally mediated action in rats and mice. Its antiinflammatory action against egg albumin-induced hind Paw Oedema was tested in rats. The result were expressed as mean ± standard error of mean. The student t - test as used to analysed level of statistical significance, between groups.and ANOVA among groups. P> 0.05 for tail flick the values of this finding are discussed.
