Abstract
In Asia, Chinese’built new hospitals within few days and provided emergency medical facilities to stem the spread of Coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic. Similarly in Europe, European's adopted social distancing and self-isolation mechanisms, as the continent is known to have enough social amenities and welfare packages for their citizens. Africa generally and Nigeria specifically, seems to be lost in their approach to containing with the outbreak of Coronavirus, as media reports from CGTN, BBC, CNN and NTA failed to identify unique paradigm(s) in which the continent is adopting to respond to this global pandemic. Thus, this study systematically interrogates television coverage of continental approaches for containing and eradicating the spread of the virus Covid-19. Situated within the framework of Health Communication Theory, the study found that building hospital and provision of emergency medical care, worked for the Chinese in Asia, and social distancing and self-isolation worked in the Europe, however, Africa and Nigeria wandered between copying the social distancing/ sclf-fsolation method of the European's co-distributors of the pandemic emergency medical approach ofthc originators ofthc disease (Chinese). The study concluded that television surveillance and correlational functions on health ‘ communication should focus on preventing the spread of the pandemic than globally. The study recommends tradiomcdical Africa and 1 and m ' causing panic among viewers for managing and preventing the spread of coronavirus as Nigerian mechanism for controlling Coronavirus.
