dc.description.abstractThe main objective of this study is to examine the effects of leadership styles on organizational performance at Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission, Lafia. The focus was on three major leadership styles, namely autocratic, democratic and laissez-faire leadership styles. The research design adopted was descriptive and explanatory. Both qualitative and quantitative research approach was employed. A sample of three hundred and ninety-two (392) was purposively selected out of the total population of 954. Both primary and secondary sources of data were utilized. The main instrument for eliciting primary data was questionnaire which was complemented with interview and documentary sources (i.e. secondary sources). The method of data analysis is simple frequency conversion of responses to percentages while simple regression analysis was employed in testing the hypotheses of the study with the aid of correlation statistics. The result of the study shows that the practice of leadership style at the Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission, Lafia is democratic leadership. The result of the regression analysis indicated that effective kind of leadership style has a positive relationship with organizational performance that shows organizational performance is predicted and explained by the three types of leadership. The study concluded that since the effect of leadership style has a significant effect on organizational performance, it is therefore recommended that Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission management should provide various training programmes to the leaders of Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission in order to create a higher level of organizational performance and enhance efficiency.en_US
