Abstract

For more than 23 years since Nasarawa state was created, the state is still grappling with various health challenges with many citizens becoming exposed to diseases and illnesses. Quality healthcare they said has great impact for the overall development of any society. The objective of this study is to examine healthcare delivery services and public health status in relation to Health Care System in Nasaraiva state. Data were collected from 172 randomly selected respondents through survey method using Watson (2001) sample size determination from a population of 59896. In generating primary data, structured questionnaires were administered through cluster sampling technique. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage tables. The findings revealed low availability of healthcare services in the state, while the public health status is fair following the availability of healthcare services under the State Ministry of Health, but the quality is very low. The findings also revealed the influence of health care on the public health status in Nasarawa state. It is recommends that necessary steps be taken by the government and stakeholders in health sector to improve health services in order to enhance health status of the public through proper funding of healthcare, among others.
