Abstract

This project work has been carried out to investigate into the Effect of Training on the Productivity of Transcorp Hotels Pic Abuja. The problem that spurred the researcher into this study is to find out the effect of staff training on productivity and to know why the rate of labour turn-over is high. The research questions for which answers were provided are: is there any relationship between employee training and productivity? What is the implication of training and development on a company's staff motivation? What are the various training programs adopted by the said organization? The objectives of the study are: to find the relationship of training and productivity; to know the methods and programs of training use by the case study organization for its workforce and to explain what training is all about. The stated hypotheses for this study were: employee training and development do not enhance staff performance of Transcorp Hotels Pic Abuja; employee training programs and methods do not increase staff motivation; training and development of staff are not essential to organisational survival. This study will be significant to corporate managers and prospective researchers into similar topics. The researcher examined various scholarly opinions as regards the subject-matter of this research. The sample size used is 302 employees obtained from a population of 1,230 people. The primary data collected were by means of administered questionnaires structured according to the Five (5) Points of the Likert's Scale. Data presentation and analysis was done using tables and the stated hypotheses were tested by the application of the “Chi-square” model. The major findings of this study include the fact that training and development enhances the performances of staff towards greater productivity; training also increases staff motivational levels and guarantees the long-term survival of an organization. It was principally recommended that Transcorp Hotels Pic Abuja and other business organizations should continue to train and retrain their employees; evaluate their performances after training them, to ascertain their levels of improvement and reward them for any notable performances.
