dc.description.abstract | Substance abuse amotigyouths continues to be a growing concern globally. Available information at different levels reveal that substance abuse problem amongyouth is on the increase. This paper therefore examines some of the psycho-social causal factors in substance abuse amongyouth in Nigeria. The paper utilised secondary sources of data collection out ofwhich it was discovered that substance abuse amongyouth is highly prevalent. In addition, ineffective adolescent-parents relationship and school motivation and performance are some of the factors that influence substance use amongyouth. The paper recommends, among other things, that there should be culturally creative intervention strategies that reaffirm the crucial monitoring role of parents and motivating roles of educators. Taws and policies that facilitate and reinforce parental and educators roles in controlling substance abuse among adolescents should be put in place. | en_US |
