| dc.description.abstract | The paper evaluates the role of the National Assembly in the ratification of international treaties under the Fourth Republic. It reveals that constitutional limitations relegate the National Assembly to the background in ratification of international treaties process, and in addition, assigns the National Assembly to carry out it roles in the ratification of Nigeria’s international treaties. The study uses the method of Exiting Data Analysis of documentary sources. The paper further explores the extent of involvement of the foreign affairs' committees in both chambers of the National Assembly in ratification process. The paper finds that National Assembly has ratified twenty four (24) international treaties, while eleven (11) treaties were Assented into law by the President and also finds that treaties initiation is the responsibilities of the Executive not the National Assembly. Furthermore the paper recommends that the Executive and member of the National Assembly to understand the deep implication of that vital role in conduct of their responsibilities on international treaties ratification should not be delayed as they come for ratification and the President should also not delayed his role as to Assented to all treaties that were ratified by the National Assembly. | en_US |
