dc.description.abstractFamily is the oldest institution in human history and remains the most irreducible nucleus of all known societies. This study examines effect of broken homes on children development in Shabu Community, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. A social survey design was adopted. A sample of 348 respondents was drawn, using clustered sampling techniques in the selection of respondents from the study area. Primary and secondary data were utilized in the study. The primary data were generated through the use of questionnaires. The questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively using tables, frequency, percentage and cross tabulation. The results show that infidelity is the main cause of broken homes and other factors such as emotionally distress, and infertility etc. Broken homes have negative effects on children’s development. Therefore, the study was revealed that there is the need to encourage National Orientation on the advantages of marital stability by government using English and local languages through the use of various mass communication medium such as newspaper, television, radio etc in order to pass the message to the uneducated and to the remote part of the communities and Religious organization should take the issue of marital instability serious. Imams, Pastors and other religious leaders should preach against divorce or separation. They should teach parents the effect of their action on their children who are often not considered before opting for divorce or separation.en_US
