Abstract

The paper examined the influence of hawking on academic adjustment of primary school children in Western Senatorial Zone of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted. The population of the study was 6500 children. A sample size of 388 primary school children who hawk were selected using accidental sampling techniques. The instrument used for data collection was researcher developed questionnaire titled Influence of hawking on the academic and social adjustment of primary school children (HACSAQ) with 15 items. The instrument were validated by three experts in the Faculty of Education, Guidance and Counseling Unit. The instrument yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.78 after analysis. Three research questions were generated and three hypotheses were formulated. The researcher used mean and standard deviation in answering the research questions and chi-square of goodness offit was used in testing the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings, revealed that hawking has a significant influence on absenteeism, aggression and truancy of primary schools' children. Based on the result of the study, it was concluded that, hawking has a significant influence on primary schools' children absenteeism, aggression and truancy. Therefore. they need counseling to help them out of their academic and social problems. Based on the findings, it was recommended that schools counselor should assist primary school children to understand the consequences of absenteeism
