| dc.description.abstract | Gender and women studies are gaining currency in the social sciences. However, there are dearth of information on the application of theories and issues that surround the woman question and empowerment. The objective of this paper is to contribute a part in solving this lack of information by reviewing six theories and raising issues concerning women empowerment using secondary data. It is the conclusion of this paper that efforts at gender and women studies must be hinged at reducing the inequality between men and women by improving the five levels of empowerment which are: welfare; access; conscientization, participation and control.
