dc.description.abstract | Oversight is one of the key functions of the National Assembly meant at identifying and inhibiting inefficiency, waste; as well as ensuring' effectiveness in governance and compliance with legislative intent. It is a veritable tool for the fight against corruption and also a constitutional tool for the realization of accountability of the government to the people. This study evaluates the role of National Assembly. Oversight Functions on Corruption. Thus, through the analysis of existing data on the subject matter, the study found out that the National Assembly has not exhausted the provisions of the 1999 constitution to ensure sanctionhig of corrupt public officials and series of corruption. allegations against Legislators and unwholesome practices in the conduct of committee's oversight functions had hindered effective oversight over corruption. Therefore, the study recommended that the National Assembly should invoke the provisions of 1999 Constitution to sanction corruption and put mechanisms in place to check corruption allegations levelled against legislators. These will repositioned the National Assembly oversight function ineffectively curbing corruption. | en_US |
