Assessment of Community involvement on School Management and Economics Students’Academic Performance in Nasarawa State, Nigeria

Abstract
This study assessed the school-community involvement on Economics students’ academic performance in Karshi Development Area of Nasarawa state, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was used in this study. The population of this study constituted 5 community development Areas with a population of 1456 Parents’ Teachers’ Association with 5 senior secondary schools and 4521 Economics students. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 400 respondents. Instruments for data collection called Proforma for School-community involvement (PSI) and Economics students’ academic performance (ESAP) were used. The Cranach’s alpha reliability index of SI and ESAP were 0.86 and 0.79.Pearson Chi-square was used for data analysis. The findings from the study revealed that school-community used to involve in terms of funding and has significant inverse relationship with academic performance and provision of instructional materials does not significantly differ on the academic performance. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that all parents under Karshi Development Area-should involve themselves in terms of provision of instructional materials for the improvement of students’ academic performance in. Economics. The school management should also find means of providing instructional materials for students.
