Abstract
This study explores the option of media entrepreneurship as a viable means of empowering Nigerian youths for national development. The study employed the library research to execute the study, while development media and technological determinism theories served as the theoretical framework of the study. The study found out that youths are turning to media entrepreneurship for alternative job opportunities. These opportunities include photography, citizen journalism, screen writers, Disc joker, the internet, business centers and IT experts. Despite the opportunities that new media is providing for youth entrepreneurship, the problems of lack of capital, inadequate power supply, lack of ICT skills among several issues are the challenges facing youth entrepreneurs in Nigeria. Based on these challenges government and the private sectors must provide an enabling environment for young people to establish their own small businesses so as to be gainfully employed and thus reduce the unemplo3ment rate in the country.
