Abstract

This study examined the influence ofparental background on education of the girl-child in Nasarawa State. The target population consist of755,912 parents from both rural and urban settlement and the sample size is 384. Four research questions were answered using descriptive and inferential statistics (mean and standard deviation) and four corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test. The instrument used to collect data from respondents is titled Influence of Parental Background on Education of the Girl-child Questionnaire (IPBEGO). All analysis was done using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. Findings from the study revealed that Parental income influences the education of the girl-child in Nasarawa State. The study also revealed that rural and urban parents perceive differently education of the girl-child in Nasarawa State. The study concludes that parents from urban who have attained better education have more understanding towards the necessity of girl-child education and have more positive concern towards the education ofg irls than those parents from rural who are less educated.
