dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study is to understand the situation of corruption in Nigeria, the activities and the role of IQPC in fighting corruption. The specific objectives are to find the causes of corruption despite the establishment of ICPC. Analyzing the roles and activities of ICPC in fighting against corruption. To ascertain the concept of corruption and its socio-political and economic implication to the Nigerian society. Proffer suggestions on how to improve the performance of ICPC in fighting corruption and how to build good public image. The study adopted a survey method of data gathering of the research information. Analysis employed simple descriptive statistics. The study revealed that corruption in Nigeria is at an increase rate, it is responsible for the perpetual collapse of the nations' institutions and sociopolitical and economic structures. In regards to ICPC fighting corruption, the study revealed that it lacks the independence required to effectively curb corruption just as under funding of the commission, the activities of the judiciary, the politicization of the fight against the menace by the government also constitute major reasons why it still persists and flourishes in Nigeria. Also the study revealed that the emphasis on the success goal of the material wealth with under emphasis on the legitimate or approved means of attaining those wealth in the country is another factor perpetrating corruption in Nigeria. For corruption to reduce or be brought to a bearable manner in the country, ICPC needs to be totally independent of its operations. | en_US |
