The environment Is not static and is continuously In the process of change. Over the years, the Jos Plateau environment has exhibited numerous and immeasurable changes as a result of mining activities. The method of 7Tn mining has largely been the open cast, which involves excavation of the topsoil in order to get to the point of deposit. The evacuation is carried out by drag line or dossers crapper system. Over the years, this method has led to some negative changes on the Jos .environment. These changes include landscape devastation characterized by heaps of sand, open pits and man-made lakes, which have made the area unsuitable for agriculture, with resultant adverse effects on human health and environment quality. This paper examines the methods of mining, their implications on human health and environmental quality. Recommendations were made on the need to ensure a friendly environment on the Jos Plateau.en_US
