This study examines the impact of mentoring relationship and self efficacy on career development and job commitment of academic staff in tertiary institutions in Ogun state. The non-availability of consistent policy on mentoring relationship among academic staff was observed, despites its importance in the grooming of up-coming academics’ hence, this study. The correlational research design was adopted for the study. The sample consisted of 180 academic staff chosen from six tertiary institutions, using stratified random sampling technique. A questionnaire tagged Mentoring Relationship, Self Efficacy and Career Development Questionnaire (MRSECDQ) was used for data collection. Data analysis was done using Multiple Regression Analysis and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical tools. The result of the analysis showed a significant relationship between mentoring and career development, but an insignificant relationship between self efficacy and career development. It was also found that mentoring relationship did not predict job commitment of academic staff. It was however suggested among other measures that as a matter of policy, mentoring relationship should be adopted by institutions of higher learning, and that newly recruited academic staff should be encouraged by the experienced staff to boost their self efficacy.en_US
