Abstract

Entrepreneurship mindset depicts the frame of mind, an required knowledge (acquired skills, values and latent abilities); which would enable the individual recognize opportunities to create value for the actualization of already established goals and objectives. This work focused on the challenges that were involved in creating an entrepreneurship mindset amongst students of the Nigerian tertiary institutions; and also the prospects of creating such a mindset. The Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, was used as the case study. The research examined the attitude of the typical Nigerian student towards the subject of entrepreneurship and, also, the effect of Government policies towards creating an entrepreneurship based economy. Using the judgmental sampling method, questionnaires were distributed to a selected number of students of the Institute. The simple percentage method was applied to analyze their responses. Findings made from this research work, depicted that students in the tertiary institutions are conditioned from childhood to seek for job opportunities when they graduate from the higher institutions; as a result the undertaking of entrepreneurship in adulthood, not taken into cognizance. It was also deduced that Government policies have not been effective in motivating the student towards embarking on entrepreneurship ventures.
