Item Open Access EFFECT OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY ON SUSTAINABILITY OF FASHION DESIGN BUSINESSES IN KEFFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF NASARAWA STATE(Department of Entrepreneurship, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2024-07-06) Omorohwovo, Trust; Njoku, Chukwuemeka Nnamdi; Paul, VincentDigital technology is rapidly transforming the fashion industry, and fashion design businesses in Nigeria are no exception. This study explored the effect of the adoption of digital technology on the sustainability of fashion design businesses in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study adopted a casual research design involving the use of quantitative methods in which primary data was collected from a cross section of 91 owners of fashion design businesses in Keffi. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed for data analysis. Findings indicated that digital technology adoption was a positive and statistically significant determinant of Financial Performance, Market Expansion and Competitiveness as proxies of Sustainability. This necessitates the strategic adoption and integration of digital technology in business operations in maximizing efficiently and effectiveness. There is also the need for leveraging digital technology tools such as social media by fashion design business owners in reaching a wider market base.Item Open Access Women’s Economic Empowerment and Management of Household Food Security in Kogi State(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2022-04-21) Ibrahim, Hauwa Victoria; Ame, Jacob Ojobo; Paul, VincentThe objective of this work was to determine women's economic empowerment and management of household food security in Kogi State. Primary data was used for the study, which was collected through the administration of a specially designed questionnaire. A survey design was adopted for the study where the population consist of women in Kogi State. A sample size of 384 was determined using Cochran sampling formulae which were increased to 422 to cover non-responses. A purposive sampling technique was used in the study. Data collected were analysed using frequency distribution, Pearson correlation, OLS regression and ANOVA to test the model fitness. Results from the study show that women's economic empowerment exerts a significant relationship with the management of household food security. Furthermore, the study recommended among other issues that to achieve more women's economic empowerment; the government, support more women with adequate agricultural assets that will aid in necessitating management of household food security in their homes and beyond and women should be enlightened on how to make use of credit facilities to prove their ability to manage household food security.Item Open Access TREASURY SINGLE ACCOUNT AND MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC SECTOR FUNDS IN NIGERIA(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2020-07-23) Bala, Ali Yusuf; Izevbekhai, Monday Olade; Oshiole, Samuel; Paul, VincentThis work examines treasury single account and effective management of public sector funds in Nigeria. In view of the need to utilize accurate data for this research, primary data were obtained through a structured questionnaire to elicit responses from respondents to meet the requirements of this work. Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) techniques were used in this study. The pooled probit regression was also used to estimate the parameters of the stated model using STATA computer software. Based on the statistical test used in the testing of the hypotheses, it was discovered that treasury single account has a significant effect on financial leakages in revenue collection in Nigerian public sector; Treasury Single Account significantly promotes transparency in the administration of funds and financial discipline in the Nigerian Public Sector. In view of the findings, the study recommended for more legislation to cover the states and local governments’ level since the policy only covered the federal level. On the same vein, SMEs activities are capable of making a positive impact on the economy of nations and the quality of life of the people inclusive, the youths. This study investigated the role of SMEs in unemployment reduction and youth idleness in Nasarawa State Nigeria. Methodologically, a survey research design was employed for the study and four hundred (400) persons were selected out of the total research population, cluster sampling technique was used to select various group representation and simple random selection technique was adopted in attending to the respondents. A structured questionnaire was used for the data collection, simple percentage and regression analysis were employed in data analysis. The study revealed that SMEs plays a significant role in youth idleness reduction and self-development in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. However, the study concludes that the role of SMEs is an indispensable, strategic and sustainable tool toward value creation among individuals through employment creation, self-development, reduction of idleness among the youths and many more of such positive developments will surface in due course if necessary environments are built for the smooth operation of SMEs in Nigeria as a whole.Item Open Access SPECIFIC DETERMINANTS OF CAPITAL ADEQUACY RATIO OF QUOTED DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN NIGERIA(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-01-28) Oyedokun, Godwin Emmanuel; Naburgi, Musa Mohammed; Paul, VincentThe study examines the effect of specific determinants of capital adequacy ratio of quoted deposit money banks in Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design was adopted using panel data of ten years (2010-2019) to explore the effect of independent variables (credit risk, liquidity, leverage, profitability, bank size, and loan growth) on the dependent variable (capital adequacy ratio). The population of the study is the 14 banks quoted as at 2019. Purposive sampling method was used to select all banks provided they have consistent data set. Thus 13 quoted banks were used. The study made use of secondary data from banks’ annual reports and accounts of the listed deposit money banks in Nigeria, and the CBN Bulletin. Panel regression was used and found out that, credit risk is significant positively related to Capital Adequacy Ratio of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Liquidity is insignificant and positively related to Capital Adequacy Ratio of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Financial leverage is insignificant and negatively related to Capital Adequacy Ratio of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Profitability is significant and positively related to Capital Adequacy Ratio of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Bank size is insignificant and positively related to Capital Adequacy Ratio of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. Loan growth is significant and positively related to Capital Adequacy Ratio of quoted DMBs in Nigeria. This implies that, CAR of quoted DMBs in Nigeria increases significantly as loan growth increases. Based on the findings of the study, it is concluded that, increase in default or nonperforming loans increases the degree and extent of capital adequacy ratio of quoted deposit money banks in Nigeria to serve as a buffer to any negative shock resulting from nonperforming loans and advances. The study recommends among others that, Quoted DMBs in Nigeria should try to put in place more stringent rules that will ensure all loans and advances to be given out to customers are adequately perused and assessed to avoid and reduce issue of nonperforming loans resulting from default. This paper examines how the presence of local governance has helped in the development of entrepreneurs and national development. The methodology used is the primary and secondary data. For the primary data the Chi-square were used to analyse the data that was collected while for the secondary data a wide range of literature were examined and discussed. The literature on decentralisation, local government and entrepreneurs were discussed. This paper concludes that for any nation to develop entrepreneur wise there is the need for the people to feel the presence of their government at the local level through and provision of credit finance from the micro- banks to assist them develop and grow. The study adopted the survey research design in which the population comprise selected family businesses in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study sampled 145 respondents who were purposively drawn from the entire population where data was analyzed using the regression method with the aid of the SPSS package. It was revealed that succession crisis resolution and family therapy have a significant and positive effect on family business performance. This area of research is important given that researchers in the area of behavioural finance and in management argue that CEOs characteristics such as assumption of control, willingness of successors to manage the business, level of entrepreneurship knowledge, understanding of successor on the competitive nature of business and legal knowledge of the business influence the way business problems are perceived and the decision making process. The numerous and growing challenges which businesses face, particularly in the area of operations ,cost-cutting and production efficiency makes the need to examine how CEOs personal qualities could be beneficial for firm performance. The personal characteristics for 1,215 CEOs across all states of the Nigeria federation were examined out of which only 859 respondents provided the required information. The study adopts survey research and the regression result shows that CEOs personal qualities have significant influence on business performance. Hence, the study recommends that successors to family business should be made to undergo training prior to succession; to enable them have relevant business experience in the operation of such business and be prepared character wise before taking over the family business. However, the survival of most family businesses has been the major issue of concern to the stakeholders. This study examines the influence of successors’ personal characteristics on the post succession performance of family businesses. The data were collected from a cross-section of fifty two (52) family owned businesses in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The data collected were analyzed using regression analysis. The result indicates that all the measures of successors’ performance vis-à-vis level of education, training, work experience and preparation level all show a significant influence on the post succession performance of the businesses. The implication of the finding is that these factors are key to the success of the post succession performance of family businesses. Specifically, the study assessed the effect of customers’ patronage and Strategies for reaching target audience on sales promotion of Grand Cereals and Mills Limited, Nigeria. The study adopts survey research design and the population comprised of 100 sellers and customers of Grand Cereal and Mills products living around Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Simple linear Regressions was used for the analysis and it was discovered that Customers’ patronage and Strategies for reaching target audience has significant effect on sales promotion of Grand Cereals and Mills products in Nigeria. Based on the findings and conclusion, the study recommended that Grand Cereals and Mills Limited Nigeria should design and develop sales promotional measures to increase its customer patronage base. Also, the organization should increase the level of public enlightenment and diversify its strategies in reaching out to its customers so as to get the populace aware of its different product lines available in the market.Item Open Access Impact of risk management on the performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2016-06-15) Barde, Barnabas E.; Sam, Tende B.A.; Abbah, Edache Idoko James; Paul, VincentThis study examines the relationship between risk management and the performance of deposit money banks from the year 1997 to 2011. The data for performance are aggregate operational risk, market risk and credit risk were collected from the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. It was found that there exist a significant relationship between risk management and the performance of Deposit Money Banks. It was also found that fraud is in the increase in banks. Based on the finding of the study, it is recommended that Deposit Money Banks should engage more in an all-encompassing risk management practice, by so doing the operational risk, credit risk and market risk will all be given adequate attention. It is also recommended that the Central Bank and Deposit Money Banks should intensify the implementation of strong security and transaction monitoring systems to prevent successful attacks in the electronic payment platforms where frauds tend to be more prevalent.Item Open Access IMPACT OF NATIONAL HOUSING FUND CONTRIBUTION AND MORTGAGE FINANCING OF HOUSING DELIVERY ON STAFF OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, NASARAWA NIGERIA(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2020-05-24) Paul, Vincent; Abubakar, Lamino Hauwa; Dogara, Nasiru Danladi; Andah, Angbazo Ruth; Obere, Yahaya MuhammadThis study examined the impact of National Housing Fund contribution and mortgage financing of housing delivery on staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa Nigeria. The main objective of the study was to determine the contribution of National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme on housing delivery in Nigeria with specific focus on houses improvement for the employees of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nigeria and Ex-post facto research design was employed as it is due to the nature of the study which is time series data while the population consists of the contribution of NHF for Nine (9) years i.e. between the periods of 2010 to 2018 to the staff of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa. The result of the study shows that increase in national housing fund contribution will increase mortgage finance in federal polytechnic Nasarawa because there is positive significant effect between the variables. From the findings, the study concludes that the contributions of National Housing Fund through primary Mortgage institutions to housing financing in Nigeria is faced with certain challenging factors, and problems and there is need to proffer possible solutions in-order to boost the flow of funds into the housing sector. Based on the findings, the study recommended that the financing of national housing programmes should be viewed primarily as a national responsibility of the government. The private sector should be encouraged also to provide the bulk of actual investment funds for housing to middle income and upper income groups of the society. For the low-income group, however, continued public support, individual initiative through entrepreneurial spirit and labour movement will be required for housing and movement involvement will also be required for housing and community development. The first purchasing might lead to repeat purchasing or a retrial thereby establishing brand loyalty. One of the critical elements in the marketing of any product is the packaging. Marketers considered packaging, the integral aspect of marketing strategy as a vital factor in product planning and development just as customers or consumers give pride to packaging. The way a product is perceived in the market by merely seeing the package may be a good determinant of the products' success or failure in a competitive business environment. This study evaluates the impact of packaging elements on consumers purchasing decision of supermarket products in Keffi Town, Nasarawa State Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design using a structured questionnaire in gathering the data. The sample size was determined by Taro Yamane from the four hundred (400) copies of the questionnaire distributed; three hundred and nine (309) copies were properly filled and returned. It was gathered from the findings that there are elements that influence consumers purchasing decision process for products and the relationship is positively related thus, increase in the components leads to increase in consumers purchasing decision process for products. Also, there is a positive significant impact on the changes in consumers purchasing behaviour which means that increase in the packaging will increase the changes in consumers purchasing behaviour. Further, packaging has a positive significant effect on the changes in consumers’ decision process of purchasing supermarket products which means that increase in the packaging will increase the changes in consumers’ decision process of purchasing the products. From the findings, the study recommends that proper attention should be given to all elements of packaging to facilitate positive purchasing decisions by the consumers and product packages should be unique, attractive, cultural conformity, easy handling, protective, to ensure good product brand image.Item Open Access IMPACT OF FAMILY VALUES ON FAMILY BUSINESS POSTSUCCESSION PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2020-03-11) Paul, Vincent; Abubakar, Lamino Hauwa; Emmanuel, Kukah; Andah, Angbazo RuthThis study adopts the use of survey research design with a sample size of two hundred and sixty (260) to examine impact of family values on family business post-succession performance in Nigeria. The data were collected using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and were analysed using multivariate regression. From the analysis, it was found that firm values has significant effect on post succession performance, firm values has significant effect on family firm’s growth of family business, enterprise core values has significant effect on family business operations, firm values has significant effect on business ownership, firm values has significant effect on business and firm values has significant effect on business management. Based on the findings, it is concluded that the values considered significant by a family business owner and family members are also important to the success of the business and its growth. Some may have economic values like maximum profit or expanding the business, while others find enjoying work as a fundamental value for success in the business. Therefore, the study recommends that family should uphold those values that will enhance enterprise activities for better expansion and improved development. Hence, family business should not destroy the image of the family or weaken the family established harmony in decent society in order to improve family business performance. Causal evidence of the growing intensity of poverty in the country can be glimpse from using incidence of mass unemployment, urban vagrancies and homelessness. The country generates new entrants into the labour market each year thereby leading to increase in unemployment and no country would allow this episode to uninterruptedly proceed without mitigation. The objective of the study is to examine government effort in tackling the problem of poverty and unemployment and to provide ways of tackling these problems through entrepreneurship practice. The methodology used was secondary data and the information gleaned from these sources were weighed using both deductive and inductive reasoning. However, there was the issue of poor transparency of the whole process, poor dissemination of financial information and unreliable financial information by the banks. These call for a change and hence the introduction of the E-banking system in Nigeria. Thus, this study aimed at assessing the extent to which E-banking has assisted in projecting banks due process compliance, transparency and accuracy in generating financial information. The study therefore, recommended amongst others that the bank should keep on improving the e-banking capacity by being more proactive in their service at all timesItem Open Access ASSESSMENT OF FACTORS AFFECTING INVESTMENT BEHAVIOUR OF RUBBER FARMERS IN EDO STATE, NIGERIA(Enterpreneurship Department, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2013-03-21) Odekina, F.O; Odekina, F.A.; Ogwuche, P.; Igbinosa, O.FThis paper investigated major factors influencing investment behavior of natural rubber farmers in Edo State, Nigeria. A structured interview schedule was used to obtain data from randomly selected one hundred and sixty farmers. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regressions. The results show that about 41% of respondents had rubber farming as their only occupation. Regression analysis show that income derived from farm and off-farm activities, loan obtained for farm activity (at 1% level) and farm size (at 10 % level) constituted significant influence on investments. About 70.6% of the variations in the level of investment were accounted for by the variables included in the model. Pearson correlation analysis showed that the relationship between investment and farm size (0.64), farm income (0.75) and offf arm income (0.60) was strong at 1% level while loan (0.33), age (0.42), farming experience (0.37) and interest rate (0.17) had weak relationship with investment. The study further revealed that there was inadequate investment by the farmers. The paper recommends that the informal saving sector (ESUSU) monthly contribution be examined with a view to seeing how it can be integrated into the formal sector for developmental goals. Rubber farmers in the area are also advised to join or form co-operative societies to enable them have easy access to inputs and loans. Also since increased income should result in proportionately higher volume of savings which probably may translate into increased investments, maintenance of subsidies on agriculture and granting of soft loans to rubber farmers will encourage them to make capital investments.Item Open Access EXAMINING THE STRATEGIES OF FILLING SENIOR POSITIONS FOR EFFECTIVE SUCCESSION OF SELECTED BUSINESS ENTERPRISES IN NIGERIA(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2020-08-20) Paul, Vincent; Abubakar, Lamino Hauwa; Abdullahi, BariratuEffective succession planning is a critical factor for any organization yearning sustainable performance, growth, internal effectiveness and efficiency, and avoiding defenselessness to decline and collapse of the enterprise. This study examines the strategies of filling executive positionsof selected business enterprises in Northern States Nigeria. The population of this study comprised of six hundred and fifty four (654) selected businesses registered with Corporate Affiars Commission (CAC) of Nigeria as at January 2018 which were examined in Northern States of Nigeria. Out of the total population, five hundred and twenty (520) firms provide the required, valid and reliable information as they have transited and are in their second, third generations and above. study uses frequency counts andpercentages to analyse the data collected. It was found that the business enterprises are motivated to fill their executive positions both by the need for recursion and adaptation. It is also found that management takes into consideration the possession of relevant experience and the company’s culture when bringing in new executives as successors. The study recommended that since the managements of these organisations takes the organisations’ culture as very important in the recruitment of executives to top positions, they should rather develop an internal strategy of grooming their own executives since they are much more likely to be familiar with the organisations’ culture instead of employing external executive who must study the system for period of time before resuming action for effective and efficient running of the organizations’ activities.Item Open Access Effect of Financing Sources on Financial Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in Taraba State, Nigeria 1 2 3(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2020-07-09) Yusuf, Bala Ali; Abubakar, Idris Ayokanmi; Paul, VincentThis study examines the effect of financing sources on financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in Taraba State, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study are to examine the effect of commercial bank loan, retained earnings, trade credit and leasing on financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in Taraba State. The study is limited to 2019 while descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised of small, medium and micro enterprises registered in Taraba State, Nigeria. Based on Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria report of 2018, the total number of these enterprises are 514, 864. The study set a criterion that for any of the Small and Medium Enterprises to be sampled; the Small and Medium Enterprises must have an asset base (excluding land) of between N5Million – N500Million and labour force of 50 to 199. Based on the report of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, it was only 69 Small and Medium Enterprises that satisfied the stated criteria. These 69 Small and Medium Enterprises formed the sample size for the study. The study used filtering sampling technique to arrive at sample size of 69. Primary data were collected from the field. Questionnaire was used to collect primary data from the field. Data was analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The study found that commercial bank loan and trade credit have significant positive effect on financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises, while lease financing has significant negative effect on financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises. Retained earnings was found to be insignificant on financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in Taraba State. The study concludes that commercial bank loan, trade credit and lease financing are determinants of financial performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in Taraba State. Based on the conclusions of the study, the study recommends that Small and Medium Enterprises in Nigeria should consider Small and Medium Enterprises sources of business financing as important determinants of financial performance. However, due to inadequate entrepreneurial skills, SMEs in Nigeria are performing below human expectation. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of entrepreneurial orientation on small and medium scale enterprises performance of North Central Region in Nigeria. It specifically sough to find out how the components of entrepreneurial orientation such as innovativeness, risk-taking, proactiveness, autonomy as well as competitive aggressiveness affect the small and medium scale enterprises performance in North Central Region. Primary data was collected using five point Likert scaling questionnaire and analyzed by using regression. Data obtained for the purpose of this study was prior to the analysis; undergo different validity and reliability scrutiny so as to eliminate all forms of errors arising from the analysis. The findings of the study reveal that components of entrepreneurial orientation (such as innovativeness, risk- taking, proactiveness, autonomy as well as competitive aggressiveness) have positive and significant effect on the SMEs performance in North Central Region. The results, therefore, call for intensive effort by the government, SMEs owners/managers and specialized agencies (like SMEDAN). Government should also ensure adequate provision of a conducive macroeconomic environment (such as uninterrupted electricity and water supplies, easy access to credit facilities, good road networks and many others)to serve as a solid platform for the SMEs to become entrepreneurial oriented in the region and the world at large.
