Abstract

Inis paper examined the role of literacy campaign programmes on the alleviation of poverty in Nigeria. Vic major concepts reviewed arc adult literacy, primary education, early child care and women literacy. A. close look at the literacy campaign and the alleviation of poverty shews a good relationship. With the literacy campaign programme people will be enlightened and. exposed to what they are supposed to do in order to earn a better living. Literacy campaign programme will address the problem of adult education to eliminate poverty. As an education which has generally been agreed ought to bring about all-round development of nerson. greater desirable fullness of the personality, so also is the case for opportunities to update in many fields where Icnowledge is continuously developing. In the adult literacy education programme, there is apprenticeship systems short, term attainment, imitating programme, initiation, participating in age grade activities and festivals all of which served as medium for educating people
