How and Why Journalism Matters

Directly or indirectly, journalism touches every part of our lives. It tells us about ourselves and, in so doing, performs a role that is not just important but vital for our society. The famous writer, Oscar Wilde, captures the predominance and perpetuity of Journalism in these words: “In America, the president reigns for four years and journalism governs forever and ever” (Mencher, 1994).
