Abstract

The paper highlighted the concept of social media and social medial tools applicable to Library services which include Facebook; Twitter; Blogs; WhatsApp; Flickr; and Linkedln. It further stressed that social media platforms have created a good forum to facilitate effective two-way Communication and increases library users and usage. Librarians and information professionals using social media stands to promote library and information services. Some challenges of perfecting social media services such as too many social media tools to learn; low interest of librarians in learning and utilizing social media; technology phobia; lack of privacy and identity theft; confidentiality of information; inadequate finding for libraries; and electricity failure were observed. Based on the challenges militating against Social media services, the way forward was that training and retraining of librarians and information professionals on the usage of social media tools for library services should be a continuous process and alternative means ofpower supply like solar energy should be provided by library and information centres.
