ORAL TRADITION AND AFRICAN CULTURAL ASSERTION IN KENJO JUMBAM’S WHITEMAN OF GOD

The aim of this paper is to examine how oral tradition helps in the communication of cultural assertion. The paper hypothesizes that cultural assertion is communicated through oral traditional aspects such as myth, legends, folktales, proverbs, incantation and rituals, esoteric prayers, song and dance. The analysis will be done through the use of the sociological approach to literary criticism. Each of these listed forms of oral traditions will be stated in clusters in that same order in the following paragraphs and explained to show how they help in depicting cultural assertion in the text understudy.
