    DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THREAT DETECTION IN MOBILE BANKING PLATFORM

    This study is centred on the design and implementation of threat detection in mobile banking platform, which is based on the notion of client-server models. Mobile banking platform is a platform of financial transactions that uses mobile applications installed on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. This platform can be accessed through authentication of users to help identify legitimate customers. It provides a series of transactions for the customers, which includes but not limited to funds transfer, bill payments, and checking of account balance. However, the increased usage of mobile banking occasioned by the widespread use of mobile devices, introduces security threats that must be mitigated. These threats can undermine the gains of mobile banking if not checkmated. Threat is the potential cause of an undesirable incident that may result in harm to a system, an individual or an organisation. Threats detection can be accomplished via access control. One of the ways to do this is through the use of a twofactor authentication method (username, password and token). This work comprises of a Mobile Application, Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) and Relational Database Structure. The mobile application is implemented in Java Programming Language on an Android Phone, the relational database structure in My Sequence Query Language (MySQL), while the JEE connects the mobile application with the database. Threat is detected after three consecutive unsuccessful attempts to login. After the third failed attempt to login, the message “You have exhausted your number of trials, your account has been disabled, contact admin”, will be displayed on the user interface layer. This research work goes a long way in helping financial institutions in detecting threats to mobile banking platform thereby upholding their reputation and boosting customers’ trust.

    TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE MODELING: AN ANALYSIS OF CUSTOMER ADOPTION OF ELECTRONIC BANKING IN CASH-LITE ENVIRONMENT

    The emergence and development of technology in recent times has drastically hastened the pace of life especially in the nature of business around the world. In developing countries like Nigeria, banks continue to make large investments into electronic banking (e-banking) while the rate of consumer adoption of this technology remains relatively low. This study seeks to investigate the cultural and individual factors that influence the adoption of e-banking by customers within Nigeria’s cash-lite environment. This research was thus conducted by deriving study constructs (variables) from previous theoretical models, theories, and empirical researches of technology acceptance and usage. The opinion of e-banking by Nigerian bank customers were also explored in order to identify potential determinants vital to embracing innovative technology within a culture-sensitive environment. Against this backdrop, the study selected factors based on the empirical and theoretical findings which were regressed on the adoption of electronic banking by customers. Technology acceptance model (TAM), though robust, parsimonious and reliable, was found to be an incomplete model for a developing country like Nigeria where culture unvaryingly impacts attitude towards embracing e-banking. This study therefore develops a useable framework built on adaptation of the TAM for familiarizing innovative technology in a culture-sensitive society. The framework was constructed through quantitatively approaching the study by using both an explanative and deductive design, and finally concluded with a qualitative approach. Data was collected from a structured questionnaire through the purposive random sampling of 1,533 bank customers across two geographical zones in Nigeria. The study conducted a confirmatory factor analysis to test the goodness of fit of measuring instruments. Moreover, reliability analysis was done using the Cronbach alpha test of reliability. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the entire pattern of inter-correlations among the nine proposed constructs and the adoption of electronic banking, as well as to test related proposition empirically. Additionally, a qualitative approach was used to assess factors that inhibit e-banking adoption. Findings from this study revealed that electronic banking adoption is positively dependent on the following factors: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude, safety, personality, culture, technical know-how, environmental, financial and economic considerations, and demographic considerations. In terms of demographics, gender and age status were insignificant to the adoption of e-banking, while income, educational qualification, profession (occupation), and prior knowledge of the internet were significant to the adoption of electronic banking. These identified constructs were found to be key determinants in the adoption of electronic banking in a culture sensitive society like Nigeria. Overall, this study provides scientific proof that culture impacts an individual’s personality and attitude towards innovative technology adoption. Based on these deductions, this study recommends that training seminars and workshops be conducted for both current and prospective customers adopting electronic banking.

    WEB BASED GIS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR TOURISM (A CASE STUDY OF PLATEAU STATE)

    A web based Geographical Information System (GIS) for locating tourism spots in Plateau State was developed. This could assist the state government as well as the Nigerian government with better planning of tourism infrastructure, location and dissemination of such infrastructure, production of better quality maps showing tourists sites etc because of the dynamic capability of GIS tools to incorporate changes that occur over time to its database. The study followed the software engineering development process, i.e. requirement analysis, system design, database design and finally testing and implementation. Object oriented design (UML) language was used to model the system, and for analysis of the functional and the non-functional requirements. The system was designed using ASP.NET MVC 5.0 in the Microsft.NET framework 4.6, C# language, HTML with CSS embedded and the SQL Server for its implementation. It also included an information sharing platform, which allows sharing of user experiences to all users. The result of this study had revealed that presenting the Web-Based GIS on the internet would offer an unparallel platform for the management and promotion of the tourism industry in Plateau Stat

    DIGITAL TOOLS AND CYBERCRIME INVESTIGATION IN FCT-ABUJA BY

    Cybercrime involves using computers and Internet by individuals to commit crime. The research was centred on the Nigerian Police Force to explore their technicalities and challenges encountered in the course of investigating and combating the menace of Cybercrime. The research area was FCT-Abuja and the researcher selected two Police Stations namely; Gwarinpa Divisional Headquarters and Asokoro Divisional Headquarters where questionnaires was distributed to respondents comprising of Officers/Men of the Nigeria Police to ascertain effectiveness of digital tools used in the investigation of cybercrime. Data was collected primarily through the use of questionnaire. The researcher adopted the simple random sampling techniques to give an unbiased opportunity for each respondent selected and researcher used the SPSS Statistical tools to analyses the data gotten from the respondents. The study revealed that Mobile Phone tracker is the most effective tools used by the police in investigating cybercrime, the study further revealed that the Nigerian Police are ill equipped with digital tools and lack requisite knowledge to advance the smart and digital sound cybercriminals. The study recommends that Forensic laboratories should be established within all investigating units of law enforcement agencies also; there is need for effective training of law enforcement officers in forensics applications for them to understand the techniques in investigating and handling of forensic evidence and more importantly the trends and patterns of cybercriminals. Finally effective public awareness should be conducted to educate citizens on best safety methods while using the Internet
