    The Relationship Between Continous Assessments and Students'academic Performance in Social Studies in Nasarawa State

    The study was carried out to examine extent of implementation of continuous assessment practice and its impacts on students 'performance in social studies in Nasarawa State. The study was guided by three research questions and two hypotheses. The researcher employed a survey research design. The population of the study comprised328 teachers in Nasarawa State. A sample of226 teachers was used for the study using a random sampling technique. Questionnaire titled Continuous Assessment Implementation Questionnaire (C A IQ) was used as instrument for data collection. Mean and standard deviations, t-test and C hi-Square were used in testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result the study showed that there was significant impact on implementation of continuous assessment practices of social studies teachers on students' performance in the subject. • ex of teachers has no significant relationship in determining how continuous assessment is implemented. There is no significant relationship between the implementation problems of continuous assessment and its impact on students' performance. It was recommended that there should be training and retraining of Social Studies teachers in record keeping and scores transformation to enable them to have a correct practice of continuous assessment; proper assessment techniques should be employed by social studies teachers. Social studies emphasizes affective aspect of evaluation so, teachers should be more committed to continuous assessment practice despite its demand, for effective results to be achieved and the demand of extra-work load should be taken seriously by those concerned for optimum performance.

    AN ASSESSMENT OF THE PRACTICE OF FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION AMONG THE PEOPLE OF BORGU LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGER STATE

    The Origin of Female Genital Mutilation is as old as history itself At a time, both Culture and Religion encouraged Circumcision. The paper outlined some objectives to include whether Female Circumcision can reduce emotions and libido towards opposite sex and to find out why such practice is still in existence in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The study review wide range of literature on Female Genital Mutilation practices around Africa and Borgu Kingdom in particular. Cross-sectional Survey design was employed and multistage sampling technique was used to select a sample of 230 in five communities in Borgu local Government Area. Data collected were subjected to descriptive statistics analysis and Conclusions drawn sees Virginal Mutilation as a violation of the right of the female child. And it has no any relationship what-so-ever with promiscuous behavior. Therefore, the government must enact and uses anti-female genital mutilation laws if this practice must be abolished in the area.

    CAREER CHOICE AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG STUDENTS OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NASARAWA STATE : A STUDY OF NASARAWA STATE POLYTECHNIC, LAFIA.

    Choice of career has been considered to be a crucial decision, made by youths and students of tertiary institutions. Therefore, any mistake at this point may have grievous consequences for them. This research takes a look at the effects of wrong choice of career on the academic performance among students of tertiary institutions in Nasarawa state,using Nasarawa State Polytechnic,Lafia as a study point. The sampling method adopted for the study is simple random; one hundred students were selected in the study area. The data for the study were collected through the use of questionnaire and they were presented, with the use of simple percentage and frequency table. The research reveals that majority of the students have no prior knowledge of the courses they entered for or admitted to study, and they would have done better in their studies, if they had earlier access to career guidance and properly guided. The study therefore recommends among other that guidance and counseling should be well organized in all schools and it must be accessible to students and priority should be given to personal interests of students while choosing career.

    FAMILY STABILITY AND YOUTH ACADEMIC SUCCESS AMONG MIGILI PEOPLE OF JENKWE DEVELOPMENT AREA OF NASARAWA STATE.

    Marital instability is a global phenomenon that has affected family individuals negatively. The family is the basic unit of the society where children learn societal norms and values. For the child to be fully successful academically, physically, socially, economically, to mention these few, a stable family background is necessary. Where the parents will jointly contribute and ensure the child's success and development. The study is aim at identifying the causes of youth academic failures, success and suggested ways to ensure their academic success. A sample of250 respondents was selected through simple random sampling by clustering the area to have fair representation in the sampling frame. A structure questionnaire was constructed and used for the collection of information from the respondents and simple percentages were used to analyze the data collected from the respondents. The researcher also made use of relevant literature (books and journals) to give the work a better research tooling to success. The research revealed that youth academic success depends on family stability and very important factor in personality development of young ones. The study therefore recommended stable family serve as a catalyze for academic success and enlighten people on danger of family instability in children personality development. It is pertinent that couple and parents should facilitation organization of stable family to serve as foundation for academic success and a corner stone for a prosperous society.
