(DEPARTMENT OF ISLAMIC STUDIES FACULTY OF ARTS NASARAWA STATE UNIVERSITY, KEFFI, 2021-02-13) Huseyn, Zakaria Mohammed
Today, Financial Technology (Fintech) is fast driving revolution in the financial markets across the entire globe. Such technologies are wide-ranging in both forms and scope; from cloud computing, algorithmic trading, distributed ledgers, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) to cryptocurrencies, especially the Bitcoin, and many more high-tech breakthroughs. These technologies indeed, have the potentialities for momentous and all-encompassing transmutation impact on the monetary markets, very soon. One of the most forceful inventions is the Bitcoin that is not only drawing the attention and concern of government and private financial institutions around the world, but also of the Muslim scholars. The Ulama on the scanty datum and fluffy fragmented information of the Bitcoin rushed to issue to Muslim Ummah differing fatwas and opinions which are sometime inclined connotations. In fact, it was this hasty issuance of the legal verdict that prompted this research. The researcher after gathering relevant available materials which includes but limited to articles from E-books, pdf, newspapers, magazines, journals, video and podcasts clips from the cyberspace, he leaped into action. Similarly, books from the library, telephone calls to financial experts, scholars, jurists, academicians as well as interactions with friends with diverse experiences have contributed to the success of this research. These vast resources were carefully studied, sorted out, analytically evaluated and extensively assessed in the * of juristic principles of tahreem and tahleel vis-a-vis the reasons put forward by the Ulama debunking cryptocurrency as Haram. After the final analysis, the researcher discovered that all their arguments were Islamically weak arguments and so he refuted them in the most respectful manner. Thus, there is need for further concerted efforts for the Bitcoin antagonists Ulama to research more on the technology of Bitcoin for deeper and cogent understanding so that they review their fata was and properly educate their followership correctly. In the same vein the researcher concludes that Bitcoin cannot be Haram as an invention and its intended usages as whatever it was accused of which warranted its proscription have been imbedded in the fait currency, since centuries. Finally, the researcher recommends more research by Muslim academicians and scholars for better understanding and public awareness on Bitcoin.

THE CONCEPT OF SHARI AH: CURRENT TRENDS IN ITS IMPLEMENATATION IN NORTHERN NIGERIA.
(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2004-07-08) Abdullahi, Adamu Sulaiman
The current political dispensation in Nigeria began on the 29th May 1999 amidst fear, speculations and minimal optimism that the nascent democracy would take the country nowhere. In spite of the so many issues, which are capable of tearing the country apart, if not properly handled, democracy has allowed them to persist in the country. Such issues include ethnicity and tribalism, corruption and favoritism misuse of power and mal-administration and above all the Shari‘ah issue. The post-independence experience of Nigerians has tended to lead to a revival of pre-colonial tendencies. Since independence in 1960, Nigerians has suffered through suffocating military dictatorships whereby dissent was cruelly suppressed, opposition was silenced at gunpoint, injustice and oppression were perpetuated with invidious insensibility. The civilian regime was on the other hand unable to sustain a true civil and democratic government. Transparency, accountability, fairness, rule of law and security were always jeopardized, leading to unmanageable and protracted crises and subsequent overthrown of 'civilian regimes. Both military and civilian regimes and administration in Nigeria were unable to establish a viable and stable administrative system based on a sound ideology capable of satisfying the yearning and aspirations of Nigerians. Accordingly, the Muslims as a result of this appalling living condition and the poor economic development started advocating for the reimplementation of Shari1 ah in their respective state. They also continue to ask for a return to true federalism, which will enable the nation to have unity : in diversity and allow the system to accommodate the Shari1 ah. More so the Muslims communities are re-tracing their footsteps and expressing reservations about the ideological direction, which was force on them. As the governor of Zamfara Ahmad Sani lamented that- “It is in our effort to retrace our steps back to our roots, we find it pertinent to pursue new social and moral development policies taking divine injunctions as our basis.” It is therefore the objective of this research to examine the issue of Shari‘ah in Nigerian political context against the background of Islamic history and the Muslims communities and the rivalry generated by some Christians as a result of western influence; the research also intends to look at the concept, goals, achievements, prospects and challenges of Shari1 ah in the Northern Nigeria specifically in the state that adopted Shari1 ah legal system. It is the hope of the researcher that this research will help in no small way in sensitizing the Nigerian society about the position, status, principles, and philosophy of the Shari1 ah legal system and consequently generate more research on the topic.

EXAMINATION OF SYNCRETIC PRACTICES AMONG MUSLIMS IN NASARAWA STATE FROM ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE
(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-10-11) Yahaya, Sulaiman
Different disciplines have explored the history of Islam in Nasarawa State which started in the early 18th century. However, the impact of religious syncretism on its core may have not been given much attention. Therefore, this thesis examined the extent of the involvement of Muslims in syncretic activities in Nasarawa State with a view to identifying the nature of their involvement and its impact on their Tawhid. The research employed interview-based method to obtain data. The study employed the use of eclectic theoretical approach, specifically using Ritual theory, Action theory and theory of Tawhid as the befitting theoretical guide for the analysis of data. The findings of the reseach revealed the prevalence of religious syncretism among Muslims in Nasarawa State, and the study thus concluded on the note that-the impact of their involvement on Islamic syncretism is on the negative side. This is also an indication that the concept of Tawhid (the doctrine of absolute Unity of Allah) is not yet understood and digested by many Muslims within the Islamic and cultural milieu of Nasarawa State. The study thus recommended that some qualified Islamic scholars should participate in making da’awah their sole activities on the eradication of this phenomenon. Concerted effort is necessary among allstake holders to emphasise that the practice of sorcery, divination, magic, sacrifice to idols/spirits and other forms of idolatry, which are reminiscence of the African Traditional Religion (ATR), being intergrated with the spritual and mundane aspects Tawhid, are put to an end.
