Item Open Access UNDERSTANDING METAPHYSICAL MYTHS THROUGH CAMARA LAYE’S NOVELS(Department of French, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-10-22) Adeagbo, Tunde JohnThis paper is an attempt to explain the meaning of metaphysical myths through the novels of Camara Laye. It enumerates the four forms which myths may take. It also relies on the concept of indexical signs as explained by Peirce (1998) in order to establish the relationship between the physical and the metaphysical. The paper finds out that objects could be deified to have metaphysical power in black Africa. The paper later concludes that every deified object operates above'those who deified them and that in black Africa the art of deifying object is mainly carried out by the elders.
