Item Open Access Assessment of the Impacts of Rehabilitation on Female Inmates in Kaduna Correctional Centres(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-08-28) Danladi, Hadiza O.; Ukawuilulu, John Obioma; Usman, Alhaji YusufCorrectional centres are established mainly to rehabilitate criminals as well as deter other people from committing crime. There is an ongoing debate as to whether the correctional centres in Nigeria live up its expectation in the rehabilitation of inmates. This study assessed the impacts of rehabilitation on female inmates in Kaduna State Correctional Centres. The research was conducted in all the fifteen Correctional Centres in Kaduna State. Target population were female inmates who are twenty as at the time of this research. Accordingly, all the twenty female inmates across all the fifteen prisons constituted the subjects of the research. No sampling was necessary as the population is small. This eliminates errors associated with sampling. Questionnaires were administered to obtained data. Interview was also used mainly to interpret the content of the questionnaire where the respondent was non-literate. The obtained data were analysed using simple frequencies and percentage with the help of SPSS version 25.0. Major finding revealed that rehabilitations did not only exist in Kaduna correctional centres but also have positive impacts on the female inmates. The research recommended modern equipment and machinery for enhanced vocational skills training be provided; correctional institutions should partner with institutes and centres for entrepreneurship education in universities and other tertiary institutions to take entrepreneurship trainings to the correctional centres to better give the inmates hope for a better life after jail term; Correctional officers should be trained with emotional intelligence skills, as well as nursing, emotional and psychological to provide care while interacting with the inmates.Item Open Access CUSTOMERS' PERCEPTION OF E-BANKING SECURITY AND THEIR USE OF E-BANKING SERVICES: A STUDY OF MEMBERS OF STAFF FROM SELECTED UNIVERSITIES IN NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-07-07) Achenyo, Attah Philomina; Ukawuilulu, John Obioma; Onu, Francis O.; Udo, Chikezie OsisioguTins paper attempts to examine the customers' perception of e-banking security and their willingness to use e-banking services. The objective of this paper is to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of customers that influence customers' perception of the security of e-banking services using the following characteristics: Educational Qualification, Age, Sex and Income level. Survey Research design zvas employed in collecting data from Members of staff from Nasarawa State University, Keffi and Bingham University, Karu. Stratified sampling technique was used to select sample subjects from the study area and Purposive sampling technique was used to select the two universities. The method of data collection employed zvas questionnaire method. The Theory of Reasoned Action zvas adopted in this research. The socio-demographic characteristics of respondents and some other selected variables were described using simple percentages and frequency distribution tables. For the purpose of multivariate analyses, selected variables were analysed using multiple regression method and Pearson coefficient and these were used in the process of hypothesis validation. The study revealed that a majority of respondents believe that e-banking is highly risky and that they did not completely trust in the safety of utilizing e-banking channels however it was observed that they zoere still willing to use e-banking channels because of the convenience and time-saving advantages that they offer. Among the four socio-demographic characteristics of respondents subjected to Pearson correlation coefficient test in this study, sex zvas found to have the strongest'impact on their perception of e-banking securihf. The study recommends that banks should restrategise on ways to market e-banking services rather than impose the decision to utilize these services on customers. Quality healthcare they said has great impact for the overall development of any society. The objective of this study is to examine healthcare delivery services and public health status in relation to Health Care System in Nasaraiva state. Data were collected from 172 randomly selected respondents through survey method using Watson (2001) sample size determination from a population of 59896. In generating primary data, structured questionnaires were administered through cluster sampling technique. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage tables. The findings revealed low availability of healthcare services in the state, while the public health status is fair following the availability of healthcare services under the State Ministry of Health, but the quality is very low. The findings also revealed the influence of health care on the public health status in Nasarawa state. It is recommends that necessary steps be taken by the government and stakeholders in health sector to improve health services in order to enhance health status of the public through proper funding of healthcare, among others.Item Open Access PECULIAR HEALTH CHALLENGES FACING OLDER INMATES IN KUJE MEDIUM SECURITY PRISON, FCT ABUJA(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2019-12-29) Shekwo, Joseph; Ukawuilulu, John Obioma; Bilyaminu, Suleiman MuhammedEvery society is known and measured by the way 7nost vulnerable members (the aged and children) are treated. In Nigeria, prisoners' health and health care delivery are below United Nations' standard of minimum treatment of prisoners and this has inexorably plunged the aged inmates into a lot of health challenges. On that note, this paper is set to; - examine the general health status of aged inmates in Kuje medium security prison, ascertain the peculiar health challenges facing aged inmates, determine the causes of these health challenges facing inmates among other objectives. The Health Belief Model was used to further buttress health conditions of inmates and a survey design was used to gather data through a Likert scale structured questionnaire from 62 sample size drawn through a census sampling technique. The research questions were analyzed using frequencies, mean and ranking. Afterward findings revealed that the health of aged in mates in Kuje prison is generally unhealthy and are faced with peculiar health challenges such as depression, ulcer, communicable diseases, chest pain, stroke, among others. This is as a result of poor feeding, isolation, congestion and general unhealthy living conditions. Therefore, it is recommended that parole based on health grounds should be introduced especially for chronically ill older inmates so as to enable them get better health care at home since the prison health care system is not sophisticated enough to handle illnesses that demands expensive and extensive care.Item Open Access Utilization of Healthcare Services among Nomadic Fulani in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-03-06) Abbakar, Ali Adam; Ukawuilulu, John Obioma; Udo, Chikezie OsisioguThis paper assessed the barriers to accessing healthcare services among nomadic Fulani in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Attempts have been made on the quality of service and health facilities in sedentary communities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), but accessibility remains a challenge to the nomadic community due to their primary occupation of open grazing and continuous migration. This has increased the setbacks in government's efforts of achieving health for all citizens and full coverage of periodic immunization programmes. Descriptive survey was adopted using secondary data and the Health Care Access Barrier Model is used to analyse barriers to the use of healthcare services by the nomadic Fulani in the FCT It was revealed that there are no health facilities mobile or permanent purposely established along the migratory routes and stopping points of the herders. This paper recommends the establishment of permanent health facilities along the herders' migratory routes that will cater for their primary' health needs; a health insurance or drug revolving fund scheme to replace cash for service; increased a wareness campaigns trough mass media on the need to participate fully in periodic immunization/vaccination programmes and patronizing the existing healthcare facilities. The existing primary health : care centres in sedentary communities of the territory should be revived and made effective to earn confidence of people on their efficiency thereby improving patronage and utilization by both sedentary population and the nomads.
