Hence this paper establishes the rudiments for its enhancement. It states that media is equivalent to the weather, it may be annoying but definitely the society will have difficulty getting along without it; the trick therefore, ___ ____ effectively. The paper reiterates that the growth of mass media in the past century has created a world-wide environment of its own; therefore, the need to adapt to its is enormous. The is to use it usage paper reviewed media as a concept to comprise: Television, Newspaper, Radio and the Internet, it also studied Literacy as a concept, education and the concept of media message is also reviewed in the paper. The paper examines existing literatures relevant to its position ranging within Nigeria context through the Africa and wider world. The study is anchored on media system dependency theory which attempt to explain why media could have varying cognitive, affective and behavioral effect on different people and society. The paper examines the displacement of traditional media by the internet, the in-depth, specialized information and the internet. The paper emphasizes the many sides of globalization through the activities of ti'ansnational media corporations and their implications on the culture of developing nations which are clearly observed in many ways including dressing. music and other moral tendencies especially among the youths. It has looked at the concepts of globalization, culture, communication, and also spotlights the news agencies . such as the Agency France Press, the Associated Press, the Reuters, the Soviet Telegraph Agency, the United Press International, the Middle East News Agency, News Agency of Nigeria, and the Press Trust of India. The paper coiwentrates on the media evolution theory, the strong and weak ties theory; its principles of relative constancy, functional equivalence, communication flow paradox. The paper concludes that globalization is an inevitable situation, hence, technological backwardness and lack of infrastructure has made developing nations unable to purchase enough and master the new communication technologies.Item Open Access News Media Framing and the Coverage of Boko-Haram Insurgency in North-East Nigeria(Department of Mass Communication, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-03-05) Josiah, Sabo Kente; Sheyigari, Simon Reazanyi7?iis study on News Media Framing and the Coverage of Boko-Haram Insurgency in North-East Nigeria is a position paper set out to identify the pattern of frames adopted by Nigerian news media in the coverage of Boko Haram insurgency. Because since2009 when the activities of the Boko Haram sect became pronounced in Nigeria, its activities have continued to dominate public discourse. To this end, the media at national and international fronts keyed into the reportage of the rebellious activities of this terror group. Through various strategies adopted by the sect, they carry out their nefarious activities which include: suicide bombings, massacre, abductions, and other deadly activities. The study established that Nigerian media dominantly use news frames: peace neutral and mixed frames. The successes, most of which were attributed to the way and manner in which media handles them. The study blamed the media on several occasions for flaming the conflict, particularly regarding the nature of their reportage. The study also addressed the critical question; that the Nigerian media can play a critical role in resolving and or addressing insurgency in Nigeria.
