Item Open Access The Activities and Challenges of Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) in Nasarawa State, Nigeria(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2014-01-01) Abdullahi, Adamu Sulaiman; Mu'allimu, Aminu KambariThe Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) is arguably the country’s largest Islamic organization, in terms of numbers. The mother body for all Muslim students at all levels of education in Nigeria; it has the largest membership base in the country. Established in 1954, to serve as a common front for Muslim students, MSSN is unaffiliated in terms of ideology as it draws membership from all sects, ideologies and movements associated with Islam in Nigeria. At the top of the society’s hierarchical echelon is the National Secretariat. Directly working under it are the ‘A Zone’ comprising northern states, and the ‘B Zone’ which oversees the states in the south. Each State of the Federation has an Area Unit but not all Local Government Areas has an Area Council. The district division is represented by central branches under which there are branches in secondary and tertiary institutions of learning. This article attempts to unveil the activities and challenges of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Nasarawa Area Unit.Item Open Access Challenges of Muslim Women Da'wah in Nasarawa State(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-01-12) Yahaya, Sulaiman; Mu'allimu, Aminu KambariDa'wah is a collective responsibility of all Muslim communities. In Nasarawa state of Nigeria, participation of women in Da'wah has been observed to be inadequate and bedeviled with numerous challenges. The research combines both library and field research methods. The library data comprises primary sources of Islamic Law which are the Qur'an and Sunnah and their commentaries. Ideas and views of Muslim scholars on Da'wah were also obtained, examined and properly analyzed. The research discovered that women Da'wah groups in Nasarawa State are numerous but the number of Da'wah workers for each group has been critically examined to be grossly inadequate. This has been likened to several reasons: one of which is inadequate funding and support from either the general public or the government to aid the groups in delivering the work of Da'wah efficiently.The research recommends that government as well as private individuals should show readiness to augment the efforts of the women Da'wah groups in Nasarawa State through financial and any other support to get them well prepared to the service of Allah whenever and wherever they are called upon to deliver the Da'wah services.Item Open Access CONCEPT l AL AND THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF FORMS OF BUSINESS OPERATION IN AN ISLAMIC FRAMEWORK(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2018-01-09) Abdullahi, Adamu Sulaiman; Mu'allimu, Aminu Kambari; Ibrahim, AdamThe paper examines the conceptual and theoretical provision of the various forms of legally permissible business operation in Islam. The paper surveyed the historical antecedents of the formation of MSSN in Nigeria as well as its programmers and challenges. The paper highlights the initial purpose of forming the organization which is to unite and provide opportunity for the Muslim students who were denied access to modern education by the Christian missionaries. The paper listed some of the activities of the society» towards uniting Muslim youths in particular and Muslim Ummah (community) in general, which includes the weekly meetings, visitation of hospitals, graveyards, assisting the orphans, public lectures to students and communities among others. The study discovers that, the society> was formed in order to bring all Muslims in closer union and inculcate in them the true Islamic spirit of brotherhood and absolute faith in Allah as the only basis for the achievement of peace among mankind. The paper adopts textual and analytical methodology in undertaking the study. Therefore, this paper seeks to first, clarify some key concepts to avoid confusion. Generally, the term radicalization is “the process of adopting an extremist belief system, including the willingness to use, supports, or facilitates violence, as a method to effect societal change”. With the exclusion of the last category the first two always get themselves into power through the conduct of election which by this,they have become political leaders. Islam considers leadership as a trust and not as an avenue for self-enrichment, extravagancy and spending of public funds without justification. The public funds are always under the watch and control of the leaders especially President and state governors, instead of utilizing the funds to provide quality education, portable and clean water, stable electricity, good roads, maintenance of security and safety of citizens, etc. but diversion and mismanagement of the funds become rampant nowadays. The aim of this article is to draw the attention of the leaders who mismanaged public resources to cease from this ungodly act and to remind the perpetrators about the consequences of doing so. The methodology adopted in this article is the use of relevant literatures both from library and internet. This research paper is important in the sense that it would serve as a consciousness-raising to the leaders, followers and the researchers in handling the public funds with trust. The findings of the study reveal that some state governors uses public funds for personal gain especially by saving them in the banks to accrue the interest. We recommend that public funds should be utilized appropriately by all the leaders without compromise while those that mismanaged the funds should be forced by the law to repay the money and be punished in accordance to the provision of law.Item Open Access Islamic Appraisal of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission’s Modes of Identifying Suspects(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2020-11-11) Mu'allimu, Aminu KambariCorruption had certainly emerged as one of the main impediments to development in contemporary Nigeria. Although corruption is a worldwide phenomenon, it is the single most devastating national disaster in Nigeria today. In order to combat corruption Nigerian government has set up various bodies, including the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC). In the recent past, the stolen monies which were hidden in foreign bank accounts were more than Nigeria's budget for seven years and allegedly looted by past corrupt Government officials. It is a monster that all and sundry blame for the economic woes facing the country. It is perhaps, the only reason why nothing seems to be working correctly in the country. It is in view of the gravity of this cankerworm called corruption particularly economic and financial corruption in Nigeria that this study examines the position of Islamic Law especially as it relates to the procedures of activities of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) as an anti-graft agency saddled with the responsibility of fishing out financial and economic criminals for onward prosecution of such offenders by the court law. This paper examines the concordance or otherwise of the laws/procedures of EFCC with that of Islamic in the war against corruption. The researcher used survey design method where data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. The paper discoveres that the procedures of operation in EFCC differs from Islam, however there are some of the laws of the commission at concord with Islamic Law. The paper, recommends application of spiritual, economic, social and political strategies through Tazkiyatun -Nafs (self purification) for the eradication of corruption in the country. Also, the anti-graft agencies should be allowed to operate on a neutral ground based on uprightness, total commitment, and a sense of responsibility, if the desired expectation is to be achieved.Item Open Access ISLAMIC ASSESSMENT OF MODES OF INVESTIGATION BY THE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION (EFCC) IN NIGERIA(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-10-05) Mu'allimu, Aminu KambariCorruption is a worldwide phenomenon, it is the single most important social problem in Nigeria today. To combat it, the Nigerian government has set up various bodies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Despite this effort, one may observe that new forms of corrupt practices are developed by perpetrators, as evident in daily news media with dismay and continue to grow worse. This shows that the only solution to corruption is to adhere to Allh's laws and avoid corruption in its totality. Corruption is perhaps, the only reason why nothing seems to be working correctly in the country. It is given the gravity of corruption that this paper assesses the modes of investigation of corrupt officials by EFCC (an anti-graft agency saddled with the responsibility of investigating financial and economic criminals for onward prosecution of such offenders in a court of justice) from an Islamic perspective. This paper assesses the modes of concordance of the laws/procedures of EFCC with that of Islam in the war against corruption. The methodology used is the survey method where data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. The paper discovered that the procedures of operation in EFCC differ from Islam; however, there are some of the laws of the Commission that conform to Islamic Law. The paper, recommends the application of spiritual, economic, social and political strategies through justice and fair play for the eradication of corruption in the country. Also, the anti-graft agencies should undertake a serious and thorough investigation before arraigning an accused person to court. They should also operate on a neutral ground based on uprightness, total commitment, and a sense of responsibility if the desired goal is to be achieved.Item Open Access NEXUS BETWEEN NON-INTEREST BANKING AND CONVENTIONAL BANKING: EVIDENCE FROM NIGERIA(Deoartment of Islamic Studies Education, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2018-04-04) Hassan, Umar Umar; Mu'allimu, Aminu Kambari; Abubakar, UsmanThe private and public sector of the economy benefit from the activities of banks. A banking system that has generated interest of recent time is the non-interest banking. This study examines the lending and administration of non-interest banks, data were collected from ten different states and were analyzed using Wilcox on signed ranks test. The study found that there is no significant difference in loan administration between the conventional and non-interest banks. It is also found that there is no significant difference in the level of acceptance of the two banking systems. In line with the findings it is recommended that as long term financing requires expertise which is not available, more avenues to train and create awareness on the system should be embarked upon. Also it is recommended that for non-interest system to capture more market, more non-interest banks that are fully fledged should be established. This will force the banks to be innovative and competitive compared with conventional banking in Nigeria. We recommends that public funds should be utilized appropriately by all the leaders without compromise while those that mismanaged the funds should be forced by the law to repay the money and be punished in accordance to the provision of law.Item Open Access PREMARITAL TESTS AMONG THE MUSLIM IN NIGERIA: AN ASSESSMENT OF NASARAWA STATE MUSLIMS UMMAH(Department of Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-10-21) Aliyu, Ibrahim Musaddad; Aliyu, Umar; Mu'allimu, Aminu Kambari; Adam, Ibrahim Ishaq; Rabo, MaikeffiThe advancement in science and technology has led to the detection of diseases affecting humans, and those which could give room to more diseases if it is not matched with a couple that is not suitable. The level of marriage conducted in Nasarawa State without pre-marital test is becoming alarming. Most couples in Nasarawa State felt disturbed on the issue of pre-marital tests for the fear of a result that could deteriorate their plan of marriage. Hence, most people give preferences to go to a wedding without a pre-marital test. This study assessed pre-marital tests among Muslim couples of Nasarawa State. Being a field survey, the study collected data from both primary and secondary sources. A total of 100 respondents 33 from each of the three senatorial zones were selected through random sampling. A questionnaire was used as the main instrument for data collection. The data collected were analysed using a simple percentage technique. The findings of the study found out that the level of awareness about the significance of pre-marital screening for couples is increasing with few numbers of people disdaining it because of the fear of an unfavourable result that might hinder the planning of their wedding. Based on the findings, it is recommended that an intensive enlightenment campaign onpre-marital testing before marriage should be done by the government and institutions through the media, alongside health education on genetic disease and its prevention right from the primary school level.
