Item Open Access 168 IMPACT OF ICT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SMEs IN THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERITORY, NIGERIA(2022-02-02) Hassan, Umar Umar; Ojukwu, Jacob Ifeanyi; Kadiri, Kayode IbrehimThere exist so many studies on the impact of Information Communication Technology on the Performance of SMEs and diverse related and contradicting results have been generated from the studies. This situation validates the reason that the result from this study contradicts some existing studies. This study examined the impact of Information Communication Technology on the Performance of SMEs in the FCT. The study covered the period of eleven years from 2010 to 2021. Data for the study were extracted from the administered questionnaire responses and the secondary data, the number (2,825) of registered SMEs in FCT was obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Taro Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size of 350 which 336 questionnaires were returned valid. After running the Linear regression, a robustness test was conducted for the validity of statistical inferences. Multiple regression was employed to run the data of the study using SPSS version 20. The results from the analysis revealed a weak insignificant impact between Information Communication Technology (INTERNET) and the Performance of SMEs in FCT. The study concluded that internet have no significant impact on the performance of SMEs in FCT. In line with the findings, the study recommended among others that government should invest in ICT infrastructure as social amenities provision; this will influence the cost of ICT integration into the activities of SMEs, also, legislation guiding the development, deployment, implementation and use of ICT must be updated in order to cover new trends in ICT.Item Open Access ADOPTING AND MEASURING SERVICE DELIVERY EFFECTS ON CUSTOMER SATISFACTION(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-01-01) Azan, Solomon Mangba; Hassan, Umar Umar; Agu, Monica NnennaThe inherent competition in the services sector today as a result of development in information and communication technology has created a sense of awareness and increase in knowledge which had led to customer's disconfirmation and customer's attrition. Hence, the study seeks to investigate the effect of Quality Service delivery on customer satisfaction of Nigerian postal service (NIPOST), Abuja, to achieve these objectives of evaluating the level of significance effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable customer’s satisfaction; five (5) hypotheses were formulated from the structured questionnaire which was based on five (5) dimensions. (389) copies of the questionnaire were administered to the customers of the selected Nigerian postal service (NIPOST), Abuja and (383) copies were retrieved and collated for analysis using multiple regression, the result of the analysis shows a positive significant relationship between quality service delivery and customer satisfaction, taking cognizance of dimensions. However, based on findings, Responsiveness made the highest contribution to dimensions ’ were significant while tangibility was least significant. It is apparent from the result in the study that managers and decision makers in Nigerian postal service (NIPOST) should seek to improve on Responsiveness as this element of service quality made the most significant contributions to customer satisfaction, by training, re training and improving on its labour force on the psychology of human relations in other to interact appropriately with her customers for effective performance.Item Open Access Corporate Entrepreneurship and Performance of Some Selected Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-01-06) Isichei, Ejikeme Emmanuel; Hassan, Umar Umar; Agu, Monica Nnenna7k fact that at every slight shake in both the local and global economy the manufacturing industry is faced with a near collapse state was the problem that motivated this paper. This paper was on the effect of corporate entrepreneurship on performance of some selected manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The paper relied on relevant literatures for it conceptual, empirical and theoretical underpinning. The study adopted a quantitative approach to the research problem using a survey research design. The population of this study comprised 85 managers drawn from: Royal Noodles and Chuck Nyong manufacturing industries, Maraba Nasarawa state. The sample size is 70 and was determined using Taro Yamane formula. The study adopted a stratified random sampling technique. The study used a primary data source. The method of collection was using a questionnaire. The instrument was a 20 scale item designed using a five point likert scale. The researcher adopted a content validity to measure validity. Further, the study carried out a reliability analysis with cronbach alpha method of internal consistency and a reliability index between 0.72 -0.87 were obtained. Multiple regression technique was used to test the hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significance with the aid of SPSSv23. The study concludes that corporate entrepreneurship has significant effect on performance of manufacturing firms in Nasarawa State. The study recommends among others that manufacturing firms should be proactive, however, cautious in been proactive, as the positive relationship does not necessarily translate to benefit.Item Open Access CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF NIGERIAN INTER-FAITII ACTION ASSOCIATION(The Department of Business Administration, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2017-12-26) Maduako, Njidcka Mercy; Hassan, Umar UmarThe study investigated effects of Corporate Governance in the Nigerian Inter-Faith Association. The study found out how good Corporate Governance elements (board size non- executive directors, directors' equity interest and the level of corporate governance disclosure) affect organization performance. The claims by Inter-Faith organizations that Corporate Governance principles are fully practiced as reported in thier annual reports while in terms of performance these organizations seems to perform below the expectation of its stakeholders. The main objective of this study is to examine the effects of corporate Governance on the performance of the Nigerian Inter-Faith Action Association. The researcher used both descriptive and inferential data, collected from secondary source which was From the annual report of the Nigerian Inter-Faith Action Association person correlation regression analysis and t-test statistic was adopted and findings reveals that there is a significant relationship between Board size, directors equity holding and performance. The study recommend that the association should strengthen the momentum of maintaining the board size between 9 to 13 members as this will encourage extensive deliberation on policies before management implementation.Item Open Access EFFECT OF LEADERSHIP-FOLLOWERSHIP MENTORING ON ORGANIZATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY IN NIGERIA(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-10-10) Hassan, Umar Umar; Itodo, Sylvanus MohammedThe main objective of the study is to examine the impact of Leadership-Followership mentoring on organizational productivity in Nigeria. The study was limited to the staff of the Black-charcoal restaurant, Abuja. This study adopted the survey research design using questionnaire as the research instrument. The population for this study consisted of 500 workers of Black-charcoal restaurant, Abuja, adopting a sample size of222 as derived from the study. The data collectedfor the study were analyzed using correlation and regression analysis and tested at 5% level of significance. The study found weak significant effect of Leadership-Followership Mentoring in enhancing productivity in Black-charcoal restaurant, Abuja. The study concludes that Mentoring alone do not enhance Productivity. The study therefore recommends that mentoring especially training Counseling, Coaching and Career development program by leaders should be given a top priority, much, further research needs to examine the effects of Leader-Follower Relationship can affect productivity in secular organizations and InstitutionsItem Open Access EFFECT OF PRIVATIZATION AND THE PERFORMANCE OF AEFDC IN NASARAWA WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT(2022-02-02) Abdullahi, Mohammed; Abdullahi, Bariratu; Hassan, Umar UmarThis study examined the relationship between privatization and performance of AEDC with references to Nasarawa west senatorial district. The study adopted a survey design. Out of three hundred and forty-two copies of questionnaire administered, two hundred and forty-three (243) were collected and analyzed. Pairwise, a hypothesized relationship was tested using pairwise correlation that allows test of relationships between variables. The findings revealed that privatization has positive significant relationship with performance of power sector in Nasarawa West Senatorial District. Specifically, the study revealed that privatization has positive significant relationship with quality of electricity and electricity supply infrastructure in Nasarawa West Senatorial District. The study further concluded that privatization of power sector moves in the same direction with quality of electricity and electricity supply infrastructure. Based on the findings and conclusion, the study recommends that AEDC management should be working round the clock to improve on the quality of their services to ensure constant electrAdullahi icity supply in Nasarawa West Senatorial district which will in turn reduce the cost of doing business that will subsequently, lower prices of goods and services for the benefit of both Organization and customers, if it desires to improve their performance. And also Licenses and a level playing field should be open by Federal Government so others; independent power producers and other genuine investors in the power business can have access to the Nigerian power market for more competitive environment.Item Open Access IMPACT OF PUBLIC DEBT ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2018-12-21) Hussaini, Hassan Tukur; Hassan, Umar UmarThe amount of capital available in most developing countries treasury is grossly inadequate to meet their economic growth needs mainly due to their low productivity, low savings and high consumption pattern. Most countries resort to borrowing to promote economic growth and development, by creating conducive environment for people to invest in various sectors of their economies. However, despite the huge amount of debts which the country has continued to incur over the years, with the aim of achieving economic growth, high unemployment, poverty, and low standard of living is still prevalent in the country. This study thus examines the impact of public debt on economic growth in Nigeria between 1999 and 2016. Preestimation tests using ADF unit root test were carried out in the course of the study to avoid spurious regression results. Findings from the study revealed that external debt stock has had a significant and positive impact on the growth of Nigerian economy. However, it was found from the empirical analysis that external debt servicing had a significant but negative effect on the growth of Nigerian economy. It shows that an increase in external debt servicing by one percent, has on the average, shnnked Nigeria's economic growth by 0.06 percent between 1986 and 2016. It is recommended that the government should imbibe some measure of fiscal discipline which entails the habit of savings in order to withstand any shock whatsoever from the economy so that instead of resolving into borrowing from external sources, it can sustain economic activities with the accumulated savings. This will in turn avoid servicing of debt and recapitalization of arrears which adds pressure to the existing debt stockItem Open Access MODERATING EFFECT OF BOARD CHARACTERISTICS ON TAX AGGRESSIVENESS OF LISTED MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN NIGERIA(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-06-23) Ojo, Lukman Olatunji; Hussaini, Hassan Tukur; Hassan, Umar UmarThis study examines the effect of board characteristics on tax aggressiveness of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The study adopts Ex-post facto research design by using secondary data extracted from annual reports of the selected companies. For the study the variables used are, board independence, board size, and board financial expertise. The population of the study is the 41 listed manufacturing firms ’ in Nigeria. However, Panel regression analysis was used and the result shows that board independence and board financial expertise have significant negatively effect ontax aggressiveness of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. However, board size has insignificant effecton tax aggressiveness. It is concluded that board characteristics has significant negative effect on tax aggressiveness. The study recommends among others that, the manufacturing firms in Nigeria should ensure that most of the board directors are non-executive with sound accounting and finance background.Item Open Access NEXUS BETWEEN NON-INTEREST BANKING AND CONVENTIONAL BANKING: EVIDENCE FROM NIGERIA(Deoartment of Islamic Studies Education, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2018-04-04) Hassan, Umar Umar; Mu'allimu, Aminu Kambari; Abubakar, UsmanThe private and public sector of the economy benefit from the activities of banks. A banking system that has generated interest of recent time is the non-interest banking. This study examines the lending and administration of non-interest banks, data were collected from ten different states and were analyzed using Wilcox on signed ranks test. The study found that there is no significant difference in loan administration between the conventional and non-interest banks. It is also found that there is no significant difference in the level of acceptance of the two banking systems. In line with the findings it is recommended that as long term financing requires expertise which is not available, more avenues to train and create awareness on the system should be embarked upon. Also it is recommended that for non-interest system to capture more market, more non-interest banks that are fully fledged should be established. This will force the banks to be innovative and competitive compared with conventional banking in Nigeria. Key words: Islamic banking, conventional banking, Nigeria.
