The contributory pension scheme introduced in 2004 was to ameliorate the suffering experienced by pensioners in the country and to further put to rest the fear hitherto exhibited by the working class. The thrust of this paper is to examine the performance of the policy as it affects the welfare of the retirees in NISER. The paper heightedfew problems of the old pension scheme in Nigeria. To achieve this objective secondary data were sourced and reviewed accordingly. The paper revealed that most retirees are not happy with the new pension policy since their welfare is inadequately caters for. It therefore recommend among others that NISER, an agency of government should endeavour to put in place policy that will enhance the welfare of pensioners and this will bring about more productivity from the would- be retireesItem Open Access Problem of Good Governance and Challenges of Service Delivery in Nigeria(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-11-20) Akpan, Usen U.This paper examines the problem of good governance and challenges of service delivery in Nigeria. With the use of the secondary source of data the concepts of governance and challenges of service delivery were analysed and certain indicators were derived and discussed. The study revealed that Nigerians over the decades suffered from poor service delivery by the public sector despite the huge resources deployed for the implementation of policies geared towards good governance. There expected service delivery has not been visible in-spite of service contract pact signed during President Obasanjo’s administration geared towards improving service delivery in the country but the situation has not really changed. Inefficient leadership which lacks transparency, accountability and couple with corruption is one of the major challenges of abyssal poor service delivery and the fight against corruption is that of the survival of the nation itself. Nigeria will realize its full potential if the citizens enjoy prompt and efficient services delivery from the state. Based on the findings to improve service delivery some recommendations were made to ameliorate the challenges
