Abstract

This paper examines the problem of good governance and challenges of service delivery in Nigeria. With the use of the secondary source of data the concepts of governance and challenges of service delivery were analysed and certain indicators were derived and discussed. The study revealed that Nigerians over the decades suffered from poor service delivery by the public sector despite the huge resources deployed for the implementation of policies geared towards good governance. There expected service delivery has not been visible in-spite of service contract pact signed during President Obasanjo’s administration geared towards improving service delivery in the country but the situation has not really changed. Inefficient leadership which lacks transparency, accountability and couple with corruption is one of the major challenges of abyssal poor service delivery and the fight against corruption is that of the survival of the nation itself. Nigeria will realize its full potential if the citizens enjoy prompt and efficient services delivery from the state. Based on the findings to improve service delivery some recommendations were made to ameliorate the challenges
