Item Open Access BROADCAST MEDIA AND COMBATING CHILD ABUSE IN NIGERIA: AN ASSESSMENT OF NATIPA PROGRAMME ON AIT ABUJA(Department of Mass Communication, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2018-09-11) ALIYU, HALIMA UMARThis research study focused on Broadcast media and the combating of child Abuse in Nigeria :an assessment of (naptip) on air Abuja. Using the people of Abuja residents as a study area ,with AMAC residents as the population. The researcher explored the role ,the broadcast media play in surveying the environment and bringing to the fore front issues that can endanger the lives of the masses such as child abuse. Thus, it was ascertained that the broadcast media is potent tool that is capable of setting agenda on burning issues and able to persuade the audience and make them take necessary action when and where needed. Survey research method was employed to gather responses from the population, while questionnaire was adopted as the tool to elicit responses from the respondents who are four hundred respondents that constitute the sample size. It was thereby unravel that NAPTIP on air on broadcast media creates necessary awareness on fight against child abuse in Nigeria, this can be affirmed when 95% of the sampled population attested to this fact. Also,the study finds out that NAPTIP on air on broadcast media assists in combatting child abuse in Nigeria, when 75% of the total respondents affirmed this. Therefore, the researcher recommends that both government and NGO should intensify efforts in the fight against child abuse by sponsoring programs such as NAPTIP on air.
