Item Open Access ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECT OF CORONAVIRUS DISEASE PANDEMIC ON COUNSELLORS’ SERVICES DELIVERY IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS OF NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2020-03-22) Affi, Amos Bawa; Allahnana, Kwanza Maikudi; Ohepo, Isaac StephenCorona l in/s Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has changed the dcy-lo-day lives of many parents, counsellors’ services delivery and caregivers. These individuals hare been forced to make adjustments in major areas of life, including child care, schooling for children, work dynamics and social supports. These changes create deeper concerns and uncertainties for many people, it is also important to note that people everywhere are experiencing the loss of their pre-pandemic normalcy. As a result of this, this study assessed the effect of corona rims disease pandemic on counsellors’ services delivery in tertiary institutions of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study employed non-equivalent group pre-lcsl-post-lest quasi experimental design. The population of the study consisted 28 counselors with 4 tertiary institutions that offered guidance counselling as a course. Multistage simple random sampling technique was used to select the whole 26 counsellors in 26 tertiary institutions. Structure response questionnaire titled; CO V1D-J9 and Counsellors Services Deliver)1 (COVJD-19 CSD) was used as an instrumentfor data collection. The instrument was validated by experts and reliability index of 0.78 was obtained using Cronbach’s alpha. Analysis of Covariance (AKOVA) was used to analysis the data that was collected. Bindings from the study showed that COVID-l 9 pandemic has negative effect on counsellors’ services delivery. It was recommended among others that school management and government should organism conferences, seminars and workshops so that it would boost the counsellors’ services delivery.Item Open Access Challenges of Skills Development among Graduates' in Nigeria(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2018-09-23) Affi, Amos Bawa; Allahnana, Kwanza MaikudiThe issue of graduate unemployment has been the major obstacle in the nation. Even with the large number of unemployed graduates in the country, employers of labour still find it difficult to fill the existing few vacancies that crop up from time to time because these graduates are often found unemployable. They lack certain requisite skills for sustainable employment. These skills create a gap in their knowledge which should have been embedded in the curriculum used in the process of training them. From the literature reviewed, the paper looked into what the employers actually want, recognizing the gaps in the required skills and how these can be incorporated into the curriculum the students are exposed to before they graduate. However, the situation where on the one hand young men and women entering the labour market are looking for jobs; on the other hand industries are complaining of unavailability of appropriately skilled manpower. This paradox reflects the criticality of skill development to enhance the employability of the growing young population and also to gear-up the economy to realise the target of faster and inclusive growth. This curriculum should expose them to skills apart from technical and professional skills that will make them employable or make them self-employed, reducing greatly the number of unemployed people in the nation. This will stem the tide of rising social menace in the country often created by joblessness, which if not addressed can threaten the stability of the nation.Item Open Access INFLUENCE OF ECONOMICS TEACHERS’ VARIABLES ON - STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2020-01-05) Vintseh, lliya Monday Usman; Allahnana, Kwanza Maikudi; Affi, Amos BawaThis study investigated the influence of Economics teachers’ variables (qualification and experience) on students’ academic performance in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The target population consisted of 21 senior secondary schools with 246 students and 43 Economics teachers. A sample of 90 students and 10 Economics teachers from five schools was selected from the target population using stratified random sampling technique. Alikert type questionnaire with Cronbach’s alpha coeffienct of 0.88 was used for data collection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics of simple percentage to answer research questions while chi-square statistic was used to test the formulated hypotheses. Findings from the study revealed that Economics teachers’ variables influence students’ academic performance.Item Open Access Influence of Peer Group and Formative Assessment Techniques On Economics Students’ Academic Performance in Nasarawa State, Nigeria(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2020-05-12) Affi, Amos Bawa; Allahnana, Kwanza MaikudiThis study investigated the influence ofpeer group and formative assessment techniques on Economics students' academic performance in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study used descriptive survey research design. The target population of this study consisted 53 senior secondary schools with a population of 4,325 students. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 256 students from 25 schools. Questionnaire on Peer Group and Formative Assessment Techniques on Economics Students' Academic Performance (PGFATESAP) was used for data collection. PGFATESAP nm validated by experts. Its reliability coefficient was 0.87 established using the Cronbach's alpha method. Data were analyzed using Pearson Chi-square to test formulated hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. Findings from the study revealed that peer group and formative assessment techniques influence Economics students' academic performance positively in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria ( Cal. 2.67>:tabl.98). It recommended among others that Economics teachers and counsellors should be more involved in counselling students among peer group towards formative assessment techniques and their academic performance in Economics.
