Item Open Access PERCEPTION OF THE IMPACT OF URBANIZATION ON HOUSING DELIVERY IN KEFFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, NASARAWA STATE(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2019-05-19) Adigizi, Garba Ismaila; Mohammed, Suleiman B.; Bilyaminu, Suleiman MuhammedThe relationship between urbanization and housing delivery has been a thing of concern for a very long time. This study examines the impact of urbanization on housing delivery in Keffi Local Government Area. The study has the following objectives: Evaluate the extent to which urbanization affects condition of housing in Keffi Local Government Area; Determine whether increasing population is proportionate to the availability of housing in Keffi Local Government Area; Examine how urbanization influences the proliferation of housing in Keffi Local Government Area; Examine the extent to which urbanization affects housing rent in Keffi Local Government Area. The study chooses survey design and Yamane (1973) formula was used to determine sample size for the study. The sample elements were drawn using cluster sampling technique. The major instrument for data collection used was the questionnaire. Tl\e questionnaire were administered to 375 respondents out of which 363 were completed and returned. Tables showing frequencies and percentages were used in analyzing the responses from the respondents. Findings from the study showed that; urbanization in Keffi Local Government Area is responsible for, poor condition of housing; urbanization in Keffi Local Government Area is associated with inadequate housing; also the study found that urbanization accounts for high housing rent in Keffi Local Government Area. The study recommends that the National Housing fund be reorganized in order to make it more responsive to the needs of the people; government support for cottage production of local building materials, components and fittings will reduce cost of housing construction.Item Open Access POPULATION GROWTH AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: A STUDY OF KEFFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF NASARAWA STATE(Department of Sociology,Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2012-07-12) Adigizi, Garba Ismaila; Ango, Benjamin K.KThis paper examines population growth and socio-economic Development in Keffi local Government Area of Nasarawa state. The population of Keffi is fast growing as a result of migration; the study therefore, investigated the causes, nature, structure and growth pattern of Keffi's population. The methodology adopted is social survey which includes the use of questionnaire as instrument for data collection and the data were analyzed statistically by simple percentage and chi-square statistical techniques. This study reveals that high population growth is detrimental to standard of living and invariably affects the rate of sociology economic development in Keffi. Also the study found that Keffi is experiencing social problems such as poverty, unemployment, armed robbery, prostitution, and civic disobedience. It is recommended that government should adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to solving problems by involving sociologists, town planners, and economists in addition to adopting poverty eradication programs in advancing the of Keffi.
