Abu, Musa Tenimu2023-12-142023-12-142021-01-26BEING A DESSERTATION SUBMITTED TO THE SCHOOL OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES, NASARAWA STATE UNIVERSITY, KEFFI, IN PATIAL FILFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF MASTER OF LAWS (LL.M) DEGREEhttps://keffi.nsuk.edu.ng/handle/20.500.14448/5081The Nigeria’s banking sector over the years witnessed series of regulatory frameworks for safe stable and efficient financial system, this research is aimed at appraising the effect of financial regulation and supervision in the Nigeria’s banking sector, analysis is given on the effectiveness of regulation and the functions of supervisory bodies on bank product and services offered to their customers, using the doctrinal and qualitative research method, the research finds that the regulatory activities of the regulatory agencies have impacted positively on the pricing of banks product to their external customers, and depositors confidence have been encouraged as a result of the introduction of consumer complaint management system and the establishment of Consumer and Financial Protection Division (CFPD) of the CBN and directive for the establishment of consumer help desk issued by the CBN to all banks, recommending emphasis on corporate governance practice other than strict regulation, speedy delivery of judgement by the judiciary on cases from failed bank and urgent attention towards verification, processing and settlement of claims filed by depositors, the research conclude that regulatory agencies should ensure that banks abide with code of corporate governance for efficient functioning of the banking industry.enEFFECT OF FINANCIAL REGULATION AND SUPERVISION IN THE NIGERIAN BANKING SECTORThesis
