Abstract
The need for social security for workers has remained a central issue in employment relations in many municipal and international laws and policies. This paper considers a number of schemes and legal framework as a basis for government response to guaranteeing social security for workers in the public and private sector employment under the Nigerian legal system. It has shown that there is multifarious tie between social security, employment (wor orce) and development. This is essentially factual for health insurance, which boosts wor ers productivity, and for child benefits when they are linked to school attendance, u er to at, the paper therefore calls for a new legal scheme which can guarantee better soci security to workers and bring the law in accord with international labour standards and p oce ures. e focus of this paper is for social security for all categories of persons but with special emphasis on workers at the public and private sectors.
